PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday announced that Brandon Lowe has been named the Club's 2026 nominee for the Roberto Clemente Award presented each season.
In his first season in Pittsburgh, Lowe has built meaningful connections with young people and families throughout the community. Lowe has supported Pirates Charities' efforts to make baseball and softball accessible to young people regardless of physical ability or economic circumstance. He has also committed his time and resources to mentoring young athletes and expanding access to mental health support.
"Brandon has made serving our community a priority in his first season in Pittsburgh," Pirates Chairman Bob Nutting said. "From the moment they arrived, Brandon and his wife, Madison, committed themselves to supporting the work of Pirates Charities. Brandon makes time for the children and families we serve and takes a real interest in their lives. That care for others is evident in everything he does, and we are proud to have him represent the Pirates as our Roberto Clemente Award nominee."
Throughout the season, Lowe has connected with young players involved in Pirates Charities' youth baseball and softball programs. His monthly Lowe's Legends visits at PNC Park give RBI athletes a chance to attend batting practice, receive a custom T-shirt, and spend time with him. Lowe listens to their experiences, shares lessons from his career, and offers encouragement as they pursue their goals. Mental health awareness is also deeply personal to Lowe, who created his Home Runs for Hope campaign after losing a family member to suicide.
Through the campaign, he donates $250 to Pirates Charities for every home run he hits. His 29 home runs so far in 2026 have generated a $7,250 pledge for mental health programming. This commitment supports Pirates Charities' efforts to reduce stigma and make mental health resources more accessible. Those efforts include Chill Mobile, a partnership with Allegheny Health Network that brings mental wellness education and coping skills to students throughout the region.
In addition, Lowe's genuine care was evident through his participation in the Pirates Charities Miracle League Fantasy Camp in Cranberry Township. Joining teammates on the field with athletes with disabilities, Lowe helped create a memorable experience for participants. Their involvement brings the Pirates Charities Miracle League program to life, allowing athletes to enjoy the game alongside Major League players.
