SAN FRANCISCO — Jesus Rodriguez hit an RBI single in the 12th inning and the San Francisco Giants rallied from a pair of two-run deficits to beat the Pittsburgh Pirates, 7-6, on Sunday.

The Pirates finished the road trip to Arizona and San Francisco with a 3-3 mark.

The Giants loaded the bases against Justin Lawrence (0-2) when Matt Chapman hit a double that only advanced automatic runner Heliot Ramos to third, and Drew Gilbert was intentionally walked.

Rodriguez followed with a single to right to give the struggling Giants just their third win in the last 12 games.

The teams traded two-run innings in the 10th, with Spencer Horwitz hitting a two-run double in the top half to give Pittsburgh the lead and Willy Adames answering with a two-run single with two outs in the bottom half to tie the game at 6.

Ryan Borucki (1-1) escaped a first-and-third, no-out jam in the 11th and a bases-loaded jam in the 12th to earn the win.

Ramos hit a solo homer and RBI double for the Giants.

Oneil Cruz and Konnor Griffin homered for the Pirates. Cruz also stole a base in the first, giving him 10 homers and 15 stolen bases in 39 games played. He joined Eric Davis (1987) and Lou Brock (1967) as the only players to reach those marks in fewer than 40 games played in a season.

The Giants fell behind 4-2 but rallied against Isaac Mattson to tie the game in the sixth on RBI doubles by Ramos and Chapman.

Saturday’s game

Nick Gonzales and Joey Bart each had four hits, Brandon Lowe drove in four runs and the Pirates had a season-high 20 hits in a 13-3 victory over the Giants on Saturday night.

Every Pittsburgh starter recorded a hit. Cruz finished with three hits, while Lowe and Ryan O’Hearn each had two.

Braxton Ashcraft (2-2) went seven innings, allowing six hits and striking out six. Landon Roupp (5-3) struck out eight and gave up one run in four-plus innings before the Pirates pounced on the Giants’ bullpen.

Borucki replaced Roupp after a leadoff single by Bart in the fifth and but got just two outs before manager Tony Vitello pulled him in favor of Ryan Walker, who got San Francisco out of the inning.

Bryce Eldridge, the Giants’ 21-year-old designated hitter, quickly answered with a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth, his first in the majors, after getting the call-up from Sacramento earlier this week.

However, Walker surrendered two runs on back-to-back hits from Griffin and Bart, putting the Pirates ahead 4-1 in the sixth.

And in the seventh, the Pirates piled it on, getting four runs off JT Brubaker and then two more off Gregory Santos to take a 10-1 lead, garnering loud boos from Giants fans.

Giants second baseman Christian Koss left in the ninth inning after getting hit by a pitch on the shoulder.

Friday’s game

Rafael Devers homered to back six strong innings from Robbie Ray, and the Giants beat the Pirates 5-2 late Friday night.

The only run allowed by Ray (3-4) came in the second when Marcell Ozuna led off with his 300th career homer to put Pittsburgh up 1-0.

Devers homered for the fourth time this season, connecting against Carmen Mlodzinski (2-3) leading off the bottom half to tie it. It was just the 24th home run for San Francisco this year.

Ray walked three straight batters to load the bases with two outs in the third but struck out Cruz to keep it tied. The left-hander yielded four hits and four walks while striking out seven.

Keaton Winn pitched a perfect seventh and Matt Gage worked a scoreless eighth for San Francisco. Caleb Kilian gave up a run in the ninth but retired pinch-hitter O’Hearn on a groundout with runners on second and third to close it out.

Up next

The Pirates return home Tuesday to start a series against Colorado, with ace Paul Skenes (5-2, 2.36 ERA) set to start against RHP Michael Lorenzen (2-4, 6.92).

Starting at $2.99/week.
