Chandler has solid outing for Bucs in win

BRADENTON, Fla. — The Pittsburgh Pirates, who were held hitless for seven innings, scored five runs on five hits in the bottom of the eighth inning Thursday night en route to a 5-2 win over Atlanta in Grapefruit League action.

Akilla Williams went 2-for-2, highlighted by a two-run single during the outburst. Williams is 6-for-14 this spring with five RBIs in his last eight games. The five hits in the eighth were all the Pirates got in thegame. Starter Bubba Chandler faced 17 batters and struck out eight in five innings. He allowed one run.

The Pirates (13-6) will play the Detroit Tigers tonight at 6:05. Mike Clevinger is expected to start against the Tigers’ Casey Mize.

Roster moves

The Pirates reassigned eight players to minor league camp on Thursday, including catcher Derek Berg, outfielder Ronny Simon, infielders Termarr Johnson, Duce Gourson, Nick Cimillo and Davis Wendzel plus pitchers Nick Dobkowski and Oddanier Mosqueda.
