Beasley back with Pirates

Sports at a glance

PITTSBURGH — A familiar face is rejoining the Pittsburgh Pirates organization in 2026.

Tony Beasley, the former manager of the Altoona Curve, is back and will be the Pirates new third base coach when the season opens. Beasley spent the last 11 seasons as the third base coach for the Texas Rangers, including a stint as the team’s interim manager before Bruce Bochy was hired in 2023.

Beasley was the Pirates third base coach before, serving there from 2008-2010. He spent the 2007 season as the Minor League Infield Coordinator where he worked with the likes of Neil Walker’s transition from catcher to the infield. He was the manager of the Curve in 2004 and 2005. He was voted the Double-A manager of the year for his work in Altoona.

Other new coaches this season include Shawn Bowman (field coordinator), Bill Murphy (pitching coach), Kris Negron (bench coach) and Tom Whitsett (assistant pitching coach).

Starting at $2.99/week.
