Bucs keep hitting HRs

CLEARWATER, Fla. - Oneil Cruz hit two home runs and drove in six runs to lead Pittsburgh past Philadelphia, 11-2, in Grapefruit League action Monday.

Cruz has a 10-game on-base streak in which he has gone 11-for-29 with an OPS of 1,574 and a .379 batting average. He has scored 13 runs during that stretch and has hit seven home runs this spring. The last Pirate to hit eight home runs was Craig Monroe in 2009.

Jared Triolo and Ke'Bryan Hayes each had two hits while Triolo also scored three times. Teammate Rowdy Tellez hit a three-run shot for his first homer this spring. The Pirates have hit 46 homers this spring, one behind the record of 47 set in 2018.

On the mound, southpaw Martin Perez worked five innings, giving up two runs but both were unearned because of the Pirates' making three errors. He gave up two hits, struck out eight and walked just two.

Pittsburgh (11-13-1) is off today and will play the New York Yankees Wednesday night. Marco Gonzales will start for Pittsburgh. First pitch is 6:35 p.m.
