Record-size salmon caught in Michigan

The Associated Press MUSKEGON, Mich. — A crew of fishermen reeled in a 39-pound record-setting salmon during a tournament in Muskegon over the weekend. “You feel like it’s a stroke of luck, you feel like maybe you did something right. I’m still kind of in awe about it,” Nate Wellman, the boat’s captain, told MLive.com. The crew included his son Jackson Cole. Wellman said the catch came 10 minutes of setting lines in the water. The Sinnemahoning Sportsmen’s Association began conducting competitive rattlesnake hunting events on its club grounds in the Cameron County town of Driftwood back in the 1960s. Most of those hunts have been under the direction of the Keystone Reptile Club, whose long-time president, William Wheeler Jr., has been in charge of the hunts each June since 1993. Game Commission announces free NRA course

Prospective hunters who need to become certified before getting their first Pennsylvania license now have yet another option. The Pennsylvania Game Commission recently announced that completion of the National Rifle Association’s free hunter-education online course will satisfy the prerequisite for obtaining a hunter or furtaker license in the Commonwealth. The NRA course will be offered free of charge in addition to the in-person and online courses currently offered by the Game Commission.
