Trout stocking schedules made available

From Mirror reports

BEDFORD — State Rep. Jesse Topper (R-Bedford/Franklin/Fulton) recently announced that copies of this year’s Pennsylvania trout stocking schedule are now available in his district offices in Bedford, Mercersburg and McConnellsburg.

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission plans to once again stock approximately 3.2 million trout in 707 streams and 130 lakes open to public angling.

“The release of the annual trout stocking schedule is always a sure sign that spring and fishing season is just around the corner,” Topper said. “Fishing is a great way to break winter’s cabin fever in a family-friendly manner.”

This year, the PFBC began stocking two weeks earlier than usual. These accelerated operations ensure that most waters will be stocked in advance of the single, statewide Mentored Youth Trout Fishing Day on Saturday, March 27, and the single, statewide opening day of trout season on Saturday, April 3. Due to restrictions, PFBC will not be accepting walk-up volunteers to assist with stocking.

Topper’s Bedford office is located at 133 S. Richard St., his McConnellsburg office is located at 421 Lincoln Way East, Suite A, and the Mercersburg office, located inside borough hall, is at 113 S. Main St.

The stocking schedule is also available online at RepTopper.com and on the PFBC’s “FishBoatPA” mobile app.

Time to help out

The Little Juniata River Association will hold its 15th annual River Bank Cleanup which has been scheduled for Saturday, April 10.

LJRA members and volunteers will meet at the Spruce Creek United Methodist Church parking lot at 9 a.m. where LJRA volunteers will serve drinks and treats.

Each year, the LJRA leads more than 200 volunteers, including scouts, church groups and office groups, in a stream bank cleanup. A second meeting point for those want to help clean-up the riverbanks from Tyrone to Altoona is at the New Pig parking lot near Tipton, for the same time and date.

More than 20 miles of stream banks and roadside pulloffs from Bellwood to Barree are cleaned. Anyone who wishes to lead a group or participate as an individual, can contact Bill Anderson at 814-684 5922 or bjuniata @verizon.net or simply show up in the church parking lot at 9 a.m. on April 10.

Bags, gloves and water will be furnished. The cleanup will be followed by a lunch hosted by the church around noon. Participation certificates will be provided. For more info visit www.littlejuniata.org.
