CORTINA D’AMPEZZO, Italy — After Lindsey Vonn’s crash at the Milan Cortina Olympics, skiing remains in the spotlight heading into Day 4 as another American standout, Mikaela Shiffrin, makes her first appearance.

Here is a guide of what to look out for today (all times EST):

Shiffrin adds star power

Shiffrin will partner Breezy Johnson for the women’s team combined — an event that sees one skier race downhill, another race slalom and their times added together.

Johnson is seeking a second gold of these Olympics, having won Sunday’s downhill that was overshadowed by a frightening crash by Vonn that left her with a broken left leg.

Vonn likely would have raced in the team combined in a power combination with Shiffrin, the most decorated skier of all time who is looking to rebound from a nightmarish Olympics in Beijing four years ago when she didn’t win a medal after entering six events. Shiffrin, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, also will race in the slalom and giant slalom in Cortina.

The downhill run is scheduled to begin at 4:30 a.m. The slalom is set to start at 8 a.m.

US and Canada meet

The expectation is for the U.S. and Canada to meet in the final of the women’s hockey tournament.

A preview comes today when they face off in the preliminary round and it’s a chance for one team to gain a psychological edge. The match starts at 2:10 p.m.

The Americans lost to Canada in the Olympic final in 2022 but are the defending world champions and have won the last six meetings against their biggest rivals.

Women’s luge, final 2 runs

Germany, Austria and the U.S. have sliders hoping to be in the mix for medals when the final two runs of the women’s luge singles event take place on the Cortina d’Ampezzo track. Run 3 starts at 11 a.m. and Run 4 begins at 12:30 p.m.

A slider from Germany has won the women’s gold in each of the last seven Olympics; the last three of those were by the sport’s all-time greatest, Natalie Geisenberger, who retired after the 2022 Beijing Games. She’s at the track for these games, but only as a broadcaster.

The U.S. has only won one medal in women’s singles luge — Erin Hamlin at Sochi in 2014. Hamlin, like Geisenberger, is at these games as well, also as a broadcaster. She’s helping NBC with its coverage.

US goes for curling gold

The mixed doubles final between the United States and Sweden begins at 12:05 p.m., with the bronze medal game between Italy and Britain at 8:05 a.m. Cory Thiesse and Korey Dropkin have already assured the U.S. its first Olympic medal in mixed doubles curling.
