INDIANAPOLIS — The Las Vegas Raiders are planning to keep star edge rusher Maxx Crosby despite the trade talk around the five-time Pro Bowl pick, general manager John Spytek said Tuesday.
“Maxx is an elite player. I’ve been very upfront from the start since I got here, that we’re in the business of having really good players on the team, and we need a lot more of them,” Spytek said at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis.
But when asked if Crosby is “untradeable,” Spytek said: “We’re always listening, man.”
Crosby has been rehabilitating from left knee surgery he underwent three days after the regular season ended, as speculation about his status has persisted following an NFL-worst 3-14 record for the Raiders and the firing of coach Pete Carroll after just one year on the job.
Crosby said earlier this month he doesn’t want out and that the unsubstantiated reports suggesting he does make him laugh. His future with the club that drafted him in the fourth round out of Eastern Michigan in 2019 became a subject when he was placed on injured reserve with two games left against his wish, preferring to play out the season. Crosby, who has 69½ sacks in seven years, had a career-high 28 tackles for loss in 2025.
Cousins free soon
INDIANAPOLIS — The Atlanta Falcons have informed quarterback Kirk Cousins they plan to release the 14-year veteran when free agency opens. New general manager Ian Cunningham made the announcement at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis.
Cousins played two seasons with the Falcons and started 22 of 34 games. He signed a $180 million contract before Atlanta drafted Michael Penix Jr. with the eighth overall pick in 2024.
The 37-year-old Cousins is 88-77-2 as a starter with Washington, Minnesota and Atlanta.
Jets tagging RB
INDIANAPOLIS — The New York Jets don’t plan to let running back Breece Hall hit the open market at the start of the league year, while the futures of other top running backs such as Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III and David Montgomery remain more in flux.
Jets general manager Darren Mougey said that the team plans to use either the franchise tag or the transition tag on Hall if the two sides can’t reach a new deal before the deadline on March 3.
Seattle general manager John Schneider wouldn’t commit to tagging Walker, while Detroit could be open to trading Montgomery.
Tush push still on
INDIANAPOLIS — The NFL has received no proposal to ban the tush push play this year. League executive Troy Vincent told reporters at the scouting combine in Indianapolis that the deadline for submissions has passed.
The NFL could still explore modifying the rules regarding pushing and pulling players. The Green Bay Packers authored a rule change proposal last year to prohibit offensive players from pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping or encircling a runner.
“I think there’s some things that teams did this year that they did a good job of being able to stop it,” Eagles coach Nick Sirianni said. “We either have to get back to being able to be as dominant as we were at it, or we find new avenues to be able to convert on third down or in the red zone. That’s the fun part about the offseason is to be able to go through those processes.”
The ban was supported 22-10 among the 32 franchises but failed to pass by two votes. Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said his team has no plans to try again.
Coming or going
INDIANAPOLIS — Travis Kelce is playing for the Kansas City Chiefs or retiring. Mike Evans is returning for another season and will explore his options.
The future of both superstars was among many topics at the NFL scouting combine on Tuesday.
Kelce is scheduled to become a free agent next month. A person with knowledge of Kelce’s thinking told The Associated Press the four-time All-Pro tight end will not test the market.
The person spoke on condition of anonymity because free agency hasn’t started. If the 36-year-old Kelce returns for a 14th season, it’ll be in Kansas City with coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Evans is planning to play a 13th season but it may not be with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The six-time Pro Bowl wide receiver had his streak of 11 consecutive 1,000-yard seasons end when he missed nine games because of injuries.
