Altoona’s Noce gets second-place finish

GROVE CITY -- Ashlyn Noce was the runner-up at the John Sample Invitational at Memorial Park on Saturday with a time of 18:41 for the Altoona Area High School girls cross country team.

Noce's finish, along with Emma Etters' third-place finish in 19:12, helped the Lady Lions finish third as a team behind only Grove City and Mars. Lana Luke also medaled with a 21st-place finish in 20:36.

On the boys side, Archie Glover finished ninth overall for Altoona with a time of 16:57, and Seth Lieb also earned a medal with a 17th-place finish in 17:09.

The Mountain Lions finished sixth out of 16 teams.

Leo Ingham finished 24th in 11:57 in the middle school race for Altoona to earn a medal. On the girls side in the middle school race, Altoona's Adelaide Harper was 22nd in 13:29.

Mountain Lions win

Altoona topped Selinsgrove, 2-0, at Mansion Park in high school boys soccer with the help of a goal and an assist by Bilal Eltayeb.

Leonardo Chiminazzo also scored for the Mountain Lions.

JOHNSTOWN -- Aaron Kurty scored two second-half goals to tie the game in Great Commission's 3-3 draw with Johnstown Christian in high school boys soccer.

Joel Lohsl also scored on an assist by Kurty.

Lady Lions tie

Altoona's Ava Frye converted an Ajaycia Alexander feed early in the second half to lead the host Mountain Lions to a 1-1 tie in a girls soccer match at Mansion Park against visiting Selinsgrove.

The Seals (9-1-2) got their first-half goal from Kaia Hoke.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Heights tops Altoona

SIDMAN -- Altoona fell in the Silver semifinals at the girls Forest Hills Junior Varsity Volleyball Tournament, 25-23, to Cambria Heights.

In pool play, DuBois defeated Altoona, 25-20, 25-23, and Richland beat the Lady Spikers, 25-23, 25-14. Altoona topped Westmont Hilltop, 25-22, 27-25.

Maddie Rupp had 13 kills and 14 digs. Morgon Thompson had 30 assists and seven aces, and Haleigh Fisher had a team-high 22 kills and 15 digs.

The Altoona junior high girls volleyball team competed in the Bald Eagle Area Invitational and finished pool play 2-4 before falling in the playoffs.
