Dwight Phillips Jr. and No. 2 Georgia run past No. 6 Alabama 20-17 in an SEC clash
Week 6 roundup: No.1 Longhorns fall to Sooners in Red River upset; Kentucky shocks LSU in OT; Indiana pushed to the brink by Nebraska

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- If Georgia lands the No. 1 ranking, it should probably come with an asterisk.
The second-ranked Bulldogs benefitted from what appeared to be a blown call in a 20-17 victory at No. 2 Alabama on Saturday night.
Dwight Phillips Jr. ran for 120 yards, Bo Walker added 69 more and Georgia staked its claim to a top spot in the AP Top 25 poll with its first victory in Tuscaloosa since 2014. But most of the talk afterward was about Southeastern Conference officials declining to throw a flag on Georgia safety KJ Bolden after what appeared to be a clear pass-interference penalty in the end zone.
It would have moved the Crimson Tide safely into field-goal range. Instead, Bolden sacked Keelon Russell on the next play and forced Alabama to punt.
“We can’t put the game in that situation where the officials come into play,” Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer said. “We just got to control the things we can control.”
After the no-call, Georgia iced away the final three minutes -- with some help from Alabama cornerback Dijon Lee Jr., who pushed receiver to the ground after the whistle and drew a personal-foul penalty that allowed the Bulldogs to run out the clock.
Lee also was flagged for pass interference earlier in the second half, which helped set up Gunner Stockton’s 14-yard touchdown run. Stockton played well, completing 18 of 22 passes for 249 yards, with a touchdown and an interception.
The Bulldogs finished with 206 yards on the ground despite playing without leading rusher Nate Frazier and won the latest showdown between the two SEC heavyweights. It was Georgia’s third win over Alabama in their last 13 meetings, first in the regular season since 2007 and Kirby Smart’s first win in Tuscaloosa.
“I didn’t come here to lose,” Smart said.
The game was played despite Hurricanes Isaias coming ashore Friday night. Bryant-Denny Stadium was packed -- President Trump decided not to attend -- and the result should vault Georgia to the top spot in the Top 25 after No. 1 Texas lost to Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry.
Russell completed 16 of 30 passes for 185 yards, with a touchdown. He also ran for 41 yards.
Alabama’s Ryan Coleman-Williams leaves the game twice
Alabama star receiver Ryan Coleman-Williams was knocked out of the game twice, first with an apparent left leg injury and then to be evaluated for a concussion.
Quarterback Keelon Russell targeted Coleman-Williams in the end zone from Georgia’s 16-yard line late in the second quarter. The pass was broken up, and when Coleman-Williams tried to stand up, he could not put any weight on his leg. Alabama’s training staff helped him off the field.
Coleman-Williams returned after the break, spent time on an exercise bike and was back on the field to start the third quarter.
But he was injured again when his head appeared to hit the ground late in the game while trying to make a catch. Team trainers took his helmet and escorted him to the locker room. He finished with three receptions for 39 yards.

DALLAS -- Tate Sandell kicked a 47-yard field goal on the final play and Oklahoma overcame its continued offensive ineptitude with touchdowns on special teams and defense in a 27-24 win over No. 1 Texas in the Red River rivalry game on Saturday.
The Sooners (3-2, 1-1 SEC) beat a No. 1 team for the first time since a 38-17 win over Missouri in 2007. They had been 0-4-1 when facing a top-ranked Texas team.
Arch Manning threw three touchdowns for the Longhorns (4-1, 1-1 SEC), but both of his interceptions were costly.

Texas had two late chances, but Gianni Spetic was wide right on a 53-yard field goal attempt with 1:55 left. After the Sooners went three-and-out for the seventh time in the game, Manning’s last pass was intercepted by Courtland Guillory with 19 seconds left.
That set up the Sooners at their 39, and John Mateer completed passes of 13 and 20 yards to Isaiah Sategna on opposite sides of the field and both were upheld on replay review.
Oklahoma then ran a play to set up the kick by Sandell, who earlier had made a 53-yarder and missed another from the same distance.

NO. 3 NOTRE DAME 58, STANFORD 7
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Freshman Jonaz Walton scored on a 97-yard run -- the third longest offensive play in Notre Dame Stadium history -- and finished with 181 yards as the Fighting Irish routed Stanford.
Walton’s 181 yards are the most by a Notre Dame running back this season. Walton also scored on a 40-yard run against Stanford.
The only longer offensive plays at Notre Dame Stadium besides Walton’s 97-yard run belong to Josh Adams (2015 vs. Wake Forest) and Jeremiyah Love (2024 vs. Indiana). Each had 98-yard scoring runs.
Notre Dame (6-0) extended its overall winning streak to 16 games -- all by double-digits. The Fighting Irish edged closer to the record of 21 consecutive double-digit victory margins set by Army (1944-46). Miami is second with 17 consecutive double-digit victories from 2000 to 2001.
Five of Notre Dame’s touchdowns were of 30-or-more yards.
C.J. Carr finished with 14-of-20 passing for 181 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed five times for 41 yards.

NO. 5 OHIO ST. 45, MARYLAND 16
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Jeremiah Smith scored touchdowns on his first two touches to enhance his Heisman Trophy profile and Julian Sayin had four TD passes as Ohio State warmed up for a brutal stretch of games with a sometimes-messy win over Maryland.
Smith turned two short catches into dazzling scores, and Sayin connected with tight ends Nate Roberts and Mason Williams for TDs as the Buckeyes (5-1, 3-0 Big Ten) opened a 31-10 halftime lead despite some sloppy moments.
Smith had a season-low four catches for 93 yards, but the sensational wide receiver made the most of his chances. He already owns every major Ohio State record and now has 38 career receiving TDs, one shy of the Big Ten record.
The game was the 100th at Ohio State for coach Ryan Day, who improved to 87-13.
His Buckeyes will have to play much better in the weeks ahead. They’ll visit No. 7 Indiana next Saturday and No. 19 Southern California on Oct. 31 before hosting No. 13 Oregon on Nov. 7 -- a three-game stretch that could define their season.

NO. 7 INDIANA 20, NEBRASKA 17
LINCOLN. Neb. -- Josh Hoover surprised a Nebraska defense stacked to stop the run on a fourth-and-1, flipping the ball to a wide-open Nick Marsh for a 44-yard touchdown to give Indiana its first lead in a victory over Nebraska.
The Hoosiers (6-0, 3-0 Big Ten) were pushed to the limit by a Cornhuskers team looking for a program-turning victory under fourth-year coach Matt Rhule. Instead, the defending national champion Hoosiers won their 22nd straight game and Nebraska lost its 31st in a row against a Top 25 opponent.
Nebraska (5-1, 2-1 Big Ten) looked to be on the verge of putting away the Hoosiers when quarterback Anthony Colandrea broke a 39-yard touchdown run for a 17-6 lead early in the fourth quarter.
But Hoover connected with Marsh for a 75-yard catch-and-run TD on the first play of the ensuing possession, and then Indiana got a stop to set up its winning drive.
On fourth down at the Nebraska 44, Indiana brought in an extra lineman in a tightly bunched formation. The Huskers crowded the line expecting a run. That allowed Marsh to get behind the secondary, catch Hoover’s floating pass and run into the end zone with no one around him.
Nebraska was in control for most of the warm and sun-splashed afternoon at Memorial Stadium. The Huskers led 10-3 at halftime, the first time the Hoosiers trailed after two quarters since the Big Ten championship game last season.

NO. 9 MISSISSIPPI 52, VANDERBILT 17
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Trinidad Chambliss threw for 213 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another score as Mississippi routed Vanderbilt.
The Rebels (4-1, 2-1 SEC) notched their sixth straight win and 10th in 12 over Vanderbilt (3-3, 0-3 SEC). Chambliss put them ahead to stay with a 10-yard touchdown run as Ole Miss scored on four straight drives in the first half for a 42-3 halftime lead.
The Rebels scored 24 points off four turnovers. Suntarine Perkins had one of three sacks for Ole Miss, and he returned a fumble 4 yards for a TD.
Kewan Lacy started in his first game back after leaving Ole Miss’ win over LSU and missed the loss to Florida. Lacy ran for a 2-yard TD and finished with 39 yards on seven carries.
For Vanderbilt, this was the program’s worst loss since a 47-6 thumping Nov. 11, 2023, at South Carolina.

KENTUCKY 35, NO. 10 LSU 34 OT
LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Quarterback Kenneth Minchey ran untouched for a 2-point conversion after C.J. Baxter scored on a 1-yard run to lift Kentucky to an overtime victory over LSU.
LSU (4-2, 1-2 Southeastern Conference) scored first in overtime when quarterback Sam Leavitt scored on a 15-yard run.
Kentucky (5-1, 3-1 SEC) forced overtime when Adam Zouagui kicked a 33-yard field goal with 12 seconds left in regulation after missing field goals of 42 and 26 yards with less than five minutes to play, the second after Leavitt was sacked and fumbled.
Minchey was 23 of 36 for 246 yards passing, 206 of those in the second half. Baxter ran for 123 yards -- 77 on Kentucky’s first play of the game -- and two touchdowns.
Freshman receiver Kenneth Darby, who had originally committed to LSU, had four catches for 79 yards. His 22-yard catch in overtime put the Wildcats at the LSU 1 to set up the winning sequence.

NO. 12 UTAH 41 , KANSAS 24
SALT LAKE CITY -- Wayshawn Parker ran for 171 yards and two touchdowns to lead Utah to a victory over Kansas.
Parker eclipsed 170 rushing yards for the second straight game after finishing with a career-high 174 yards against Iowa State two weeks ago.
Devon Dampier threw for 238 yards and three touchdowns to help the Utes (5-0, 2-0 Big 12) stay undefeated. Dampier also ran for 68 yards and another score. Ricky Johnson had a season-high 104 yards and a touchdown on five catches for Utah.
Isaiah Marshall threw for 333 yards and two touchdowns to lead Kansas. Cam Pickett had a season-high 134 yards on eight catches for the Jayhawks (2-3, 0-2), who surrendered 541 total yards to the Utes.
The Jayhawks never led but cut Utah’s lead to 27-24 on Marshall’s 29-yard pass to Nik McMillan with 27 seconds left in the third quarter.
Dampier capped a nine-play drive covering 75 yards with a 1-yard toss to Semi Taulanga to give Utah breathing room. Then, after the Utes got a fourth-down stop at their own 1, Parker raced 90 yards untouched to cap the scoring with 7:13 left.

NO. 21 UCLA 17, NO. 13 OREGON 15
EUGENE, Ore. -- Wayne Knight rushed for a touchdown and caught another score, and UCLA overcame an injury to starting quarterback Nico Iamaleava to remain undefeated with a victory over Oregon.
Knight ran for 103 yards on 22 carries and caught three passes for 12 yards, including a fourth-quarter, 9-yard touchdown reception from backup Ty Dieffenbach for the Bruins (5-0, 1-0 Big Ten).
The sloppy game featured 10 turnovers, including seven for the Ducks (3-2, 1-1 Big Ten), who saw their chances for a spot in the College Football Playoff fade with a second loss.
“From the start, we came out, we punched them, and we just kept on going,” Knight said. “We had a couple of mishaps, but we bounced back every single time.”
Oregon came close with Evan Stewart’s 44-yard scoring pass from Brock Thomas to make it 17-15 with 2:16 left. UCLA was flagged for a facemask penalty on Oregon’s 2-point conversion try, giving the Ducks another shot from a half yard away. UCLA’s defense smothered rusher Jordon Davison to thwart the Ducks.
The Ducks had one final drive with less than a minute left but a lost fumble and fell short as time ran out.

ST. LOUIS -- Jamal Roberts had 34 carries for a career-best 222 yards and two touchdowns, and Cayden Lee caught seven passes for 94 yards and a touchdown to help Missouri beat Texas.
The Tigers (5-1, 2-1 Southeastern Conference), who have won two straight, also got a pair of 50-plus yard field goals from Blake Craig while Austin Simmons completed 14 of 28 passes for 147 yards and a touchdown.
Marcel Reed led Texas A&M (3-3, 1-3 SEC) by completing 19 of 39 passes for 189 yards, but he was intercepted twice and lost 18 yards on seven carries.
Roberts sealed the game with a 54-yard touchdown run with 2:49 remaining after he extended Missouri’s lead to 20-3 on a one-yard scoring run at the end of the third quarter that was awarded on video review after he was initially ruled down short of the end zone.
The Aggies came close to scoring their first touchdown of the game early in the fourth quarter, but Nicholas Rodriguez tackled Ashton Bethel-Roman for a two-yard loss and the Aggies had to settle for a 27-yard field goal from David Olano.
Simmons connected with Lee for a 32-yard touchdown pass early in the second quarter to give Missouri a 7-3 lead after Olano kicked a 53-yard field goal to give Texas A&M its only lead with 4:46 left in the first quarter.

NO. 15 TENNESSEE 24, ARKANSAS 17
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- George MacIntyre threw for 247 yards and a touchdown in his first career start, DeSean Bishop ran for 138 yards and Tennessee rallied in the fourth quarter to beat Arkansas.
With the game tied at 17 with 4:07 left and Tennessee (5-1, 2-1 SEC) pinned inside its own 10 after an Arkansas punt, Bishop ran for 59 yards to help set up the go-ahead score.
Four plays after that run, Bishop took the ball into the end zone from 8 yards and Tennessee’s defense responded by forcing Arkansas three-and-out as the Razorbacks chose to punt with 1:36 left, trailing by seven points.
MacIntyre, a sophomore, took over for usual starter Faizon Brandon last week as Brandon dealt with a troubling shoulder injury and then made the start against the Razorbacks (2-4, 0-3 SEC).

SOUTH CAROLINA 38, NO. 16 FLORIDA 13
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- LaNorris Sellers accounted for five touchdowns, including four passing in his best performance in nearly two years, and South Carolina stunned Florida to end an eight-game skid in SEC play.
Sellers completed 23 of 35 passes for 279 yards, finding Nyck Harbor, Mazeo Bennett Jr., Donovan Murph and Lex Cyrus for scores against the league’s worst passing defense.
Sellers’ most impressive play was a 3-yard run in the third quarter in which he tossed aside a defender and nearly scored. He plunged in on the next play, essentially sealing a long-awaited victory for the Gamecocks (3-3, 1-3 SEC).
South Carolina’s last win in league play came against Kentucky in September 2025. Coach Shane Beamer’s team blew four significant leads in its last five SEC games, but the Gamecocks closed this one out without any issues and won in Gainesville for the first time since 2014.
It was Sellers’ best outing since throwing five TDs against Missouri in November 2024.
The Gators (4-2, 2-2 SEC), who were double-digit favorites at home, lost a second consecutive game in lopsided fashion and surely will fall out of the AP Top 25. They were looking to rebound from a 45-17 shocker at then-No. 25 Missouri. Instead, they got humiliated in the Swamp.

STILLWATER, Okla. -- Drew Mestemaker threw for 304 yards and two touchdowns, Evan Jackson returned a fumble 28 yards for another score, and Oklahoma State pulled away from UCF in the second half for a win.
Mestemaker added a rushing touchdown and 2-point conversion for Oklahoma State (4-1, 2-0 Big 12), which outscored the Knights 21-7 after halftime. Sam Keltner kicked two field goals to give the Cowboys a 27-21 lead early in the fourth quarter.
Keyone Jenkins threw for 265 yards and four touchdowns and was driving the Knights (3-3, 1-2) toward a possible go-ahead touchdown early in the fourth quarter. But his backwards pass was knocked down by Oklahoma State’s Christian Bodnar and returned for a touchdown by Jackson. Mestemaker’s conversion run gave the Cowboys a 35-21 cushion with 10:32 left.
Jenkins was nearly perfect in the first half, completing 15 of 18 passes for 118 yards and three scores. His 3-yard pass to Tyren Hornes with 13 seconds left before halftime drew the Knights even at 21.
Mestemaker was efficient as well, connecting on 12 of 16 throws for 165 yards and a score in the first half.

Yellow Jackets’ quarterback Alberto Mendoza, the younger brother of last year’s Heisman Memorial Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza, completed 23 of his 30 passes for 218 yards and a score. Jordan Allen hauled in 10 catches for 99 yards, including Mendoza’s touchdown.
Duke's Nate Sheppard, who entered the game ranked fourth nationally in rushing yards, had 99 yards on the ground and two touchdowns, along with 91 receiving yards.
UCONN 34, TEMPLE 20
PHILADELPHIA -- Trey Cornist totaled 114 yards and one of Connecticut's four rushing touchdowns and the Huskies beat Temple.
Cornist did his damage on seven carries for UConn (3-3). The Huskies also had touchdown runs from Kenji Christian, quarterback Kalieb Osborne and Cyncir Bowers, who had 84 yards on 18 rushes.
Osborne had a 12-yard touchdown run to give UConn a 7-0 lead to start the game and finished with 257 yards on 17-for-23 passing. Ajani Sheppard finished with 260 yards and a touchdown on 19-for-25 passing for Temple (2-4).
OHIO 31, CENTRAL MICHIGAN 14
ATHENS, Ohio -- Nick Poulos threw three first-half touchdown passes and Ohio extended the nation's second longest current home winning streak to 16 with a victory over Central Michigan.
Defending champion Indiana's 19-game run at home is the only streak longer than the Bobcats'. Duncan Brune broke through for a 23-yard touchdown on a third-and-3 run and Ohio (4-2, 2-0 MAC) took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back.
Riley Neer caught a 3-yard touchdown pass from Poulos for a 14-0 advantage after one quarter. Will Hryszko kicked a field goal, and Poulos followed with touchdown passes covering 1 yard to Preston Bowman and 44 yards to Dom Dorwart for a 31-0 lead at halftime. Angel Flores completed 14 of 20 passes for 112 yards for Central Michigan (3-3, 1-1 MAC).
UNLV 13, NORTH DAKOTA ST. 7
LAS VEGAS -- Andre Porter’s 23-yard interception return for a touchdown was UNLV’s only touchdown and the Rebels stifled North Dakota’s usually high-flying offense in a 13-7 win on Saturday.
The Bison entered the game averaging 33.6 points per contest. Their 28-0 win over Wyoming on Oct. 3 was the Bison’s lowest scoring performance this season.
On Saturday, however, UNLV’s (4-2, 2-0 Mountain West Conference) defense intercepted Bison quarterback Nathan Hayes three times.
Hayes, who played despite nursing an injured toe, lacked his normal mobility and completed just 12 of 22 passes for 124 yards and a touchdown. He ran six times for 33 yards after a 79-yard, 10-carry two-touchdown performance on the ground last week.
COASTAL CAROLINA 27, MARSHALL 21
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Dominic Lee-Knicely rushed for 169 yards and a touchdown and Coastal Carolina held on to beat Marshall.
The Chanticleers (2-4, 1-1 Sun Belt) forced six turnovers and led 13-0 at halftime before scoring twice early in the third quarter. Lee-Knicely broke a 70-yard touchdown run on the first play of the second half to make it 20-0, and Jaden Allen-Hendrix added a 2-yard touchdown run less than three minutes later to extend the lead to 27 points.
Marshall (3-3, 0-2 Sun Belt) got on the board when Judah Price scored on a 50-yard run late in the third quarter.
VIRGINIA 28, SYRACUSE 25
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Jekail Middlebrook rushed for two touchdowns in the fourth quarter, and Virginia overcame a 10-point second-half deficit to beat Syracuse.
Middlebrook finished with 95 yards rushing on 17 carries. Beau Pribula was 11-of-19 passing for 119 yards and a touchdown. Pribula found Da'Shawn Martin down the sideline for a 43-yard touchdown late in the third. Middlebrook then capped Virginia's next two drives with touchdown runs of 3 and 5 yards, respectively, to make it 28-17 with 5:20 left in the game.
In his first start for Syracuse, Malachi Nelson was 16-of-29 for 217 yards and a touchdown. Amari Odom, who led the Orange to a 42-41 overtime win over UConn last week, was a game-time decision Saturday and did not play.
ARIZONA STATE 30, HAWAII 12
TEMPE, Ariz. -- Cardae Mack ran for 154 yards and two scores, Cutter Boley threw two touchdown passes to Reed Harris and Arizona State grinded out a win over Hawaii.
The Sun Devils needed a bounce back following a 55-19 home loss to Baylor last week. It wasn't always pretty, but Arizona State found a way to wear down the Rainbow Warriors for a much-needed win.
Mack scored on a 2-yard run in the first half and broke off a 67-yard TD run late in the third quarter that put Arizona State up 24-6. Boley threw for 189 yards on 21-of-31 passing and hit Harris on a late 9-yard TD to close it out.

NO. 8 BYU 24, IOWA ST. 10
PROVO, Utah -- Bear Bachmeier threw for a season-high 329 yards and two touchdowns to lead No. 8 BYU to a 24-10 victory over Iowa State on Friday night.
Bachmeier completed 73% of his passes en route to his fourth career 300-yard game. He also ran for a career-best 109 yards to help the Cougars (5-0, 3-0 Big 12) overcome the absence of running back LJ Martin.
It was the second straight season Bachmeier threw for more than 300 yards against Iowa State (3-3, 1-2) and his first career 100-yard game on the ground.
Jaylen Raynor threw for 98 yards and a touchdown to lead the Cyclones. Aiden Flora added 86 yards on the ground but had only 11 yards rushing before halftime.
Bachmeier completed his first seven passes and generally played with more confidence and efficiency as a passer after struggling against TCU. He went 4 of 4 on BYU's opening drive, and added a 26-yard run, to power the Cougars to their first touchdown. Journee Tonga weaved past defenders on a 6-yard scamper to finish off the scoring drive.
Bachmeier rolled out on a misdirection and hit Roger Saleapaga in stride for a 63-yard pass to set up BYU's second scoring drive. Kyler Kasper scored two plays later, backpedaling across the goal line to help the Cougars take a 14-3 lead with 1:51 left before halftime.
BYU used stingy defense to keep Iowa State from ever threatening to close the gap. The Cougars allowed six total yards in the second quarter, yielding only 0.5 yards per play.

NO. 20 IOWA 41, WASHINGTON 24
SEATTLE -- Kamari Moulton ran for a career-high 208 yards on 26 carries and the Iowa defense held Washington to minus-3 yards rushing as the Hawkeyes rolled to a victory.
Jeremy Hecklinski, starting in place of injured Hawkeyes quarterback Hank Brown, threw for 202 yards and three touchdowns on 14-of-19 passing. Moulton averaged 8 yards per carry and scored twice against a struggling Huskies defense.
Iowa (5-1, 2-1 Big Ten) bolted to a 13-0 lead in the first quarter as Caden Buhr nailed field goals of 51 and 27 yards, and Moulton scored on a 56-yard touchdown run.
Hecklinski connected with tight end DJ Vonnahme twice in the second quarter for touchdown passes of 20 and 27 yards to make it 27-0.
Meanwhile, the Hawkeyes defense dominated UW early on, forcing punts on each of Washington's first five drives while holding the Huskies (3-3, 0-3) to 95 yards of total offense in the first half.
UW totaled 14 yards on 15 plays during its first five drives before finally scoring on a 30-yard field goal from Tyler Robles with 1:56 left in the first half.
Huskies quarterback Demond Williams Jr. left after taking a hit on that second-quarter drive and went to the locker room for X-rays. He did not return.
Elijah Brown came in late in the first half and gave the offense a spark, leading an eight-play, 75-yard drive to open the third quarter that ended with a 10-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Chris Lawson.
The Hawkeyes and Huskies each scored another touchdown in the third to make it 34-18 before Moulton scored his second TD on a 3-yard run with 12:06 left in the game.
