PITTSBURGH -- Pitt sophomore quarterback Mason Heintschel was named the Maxwell Award Player of the Week and the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback of the Week following his performance in the Panthers' 59-14 season-opening victory over Miami (OH).
Heintschel completed 31-of-41 passes (75.6%) for 453 yards and seven touchdowns without an interception. His seven touchdown passes tied Pitt's single-game record and established an Atlantic Coast Conference single-game mark.
The performance made Heintschel the first FBS quarterback since LSU's Joe Burrow in 2019 to pass for at least 450 yards and seven touchdowns without an interception. His 224.76 passer-efficiency rating ranked second among qualifying ACC quarterbacks for the opening week.
ACC hoop slate set
PITTSBURGH -- The Atlantic Coast Conference announced the 2026-27 men's basketball league schedule, and Pitt will play 18 league games with nine home contests and nine on the road. ACC play begins Saturday, Jan. 2 as the Panthers play host to Miami. After back-to-back road games in North Carolina against NC State (Jan. 6) and Duke (Jan. 9), Pitt plays four of its next five games at home. Pitt had previously announced its non-conference schedule. Among the highlights, Pitt will play Penn State, Villanova, Oklahoma, DePaul and West Virginia. The Villanova and WVU games will be played on the Panthers' home court.
