Paxton Kling of the Texas Rangers organization is moving on up.
Kling, the former standout scholastic baseball star and Central High School graduate, was promoted on Wednesday from Class A ball to the Rangers' Double-A affiliate in Texas, the Frisco RoughRiders.
Kling recently completed his Single-A season in the South Atlantic League for the Hub City Spartanburgers out of South Carolina. Frisco, which plays in the Texas League, has one week remaining in its season, but then will begin postseason play on Thursday, Sept. 17.
With Hub City, Kling batted .247 with a team that went 61-71. In his 304 at bats, he had 75 hits and scored 58 runs with seven home runs, 31 RBIs and 38 stolen bases. His OBP was .386 while his OPS was .754.
Defensively, he played all three outfield positions and made only two errors all season.
Kling was drafted in 2025 by the Rangers in the seventh round of the MLB Draft out of Penn State. He originally signed to play at LSU where during his freshman year the Tigers won the national championship. After his sophomore year, he transferred to Penn State where he starred for the Nittany Lions.
No Ohtani
LOS ANGELES -- Shohei Ohtani is out of the Los Angeles Dodgers' lineup for the sixth time in seven games.
He felt something in his right arm during a swing on Monday. Ohtani has been managing soreness in his right biceps and left knee for weeks. Manager Dave Roberts says the team will decide the next steps after consulting with medical staff.
The Dodgers are off today and start a road trip in Miami on Friday.
No Jazz in NY
NEW YORK -- Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. will be placed on the 10-day injured list with a sprained right thumb.
Chisholm will be shut down for seven to 10 days. New York has 18 games left.
Chisholm was injured on a slide at second base trying to stretch a single in the eighth inning of Tuesday's 5-3 win. He was tagged out by Ezequiel Tovar, and his thumb appeared to hit the Colorado shortstop's cleat.
Eligible for free agency after this season, Chisholm is hitting .232 with 19 homers and 55 RBIs in 134 games. He also has 40 stolen bases.
