Tiger boys golf team captures Challenge

Hollidaysburg edged Altoona, 11-7, in the Big Cat Challenge at Park Hills Golf Club Wednesday in high school boys golf.

The Golden Tiger teams of Tyler Steiner and Landen Petrunak and Isaac Tryninewski and Brayden Hatch got three points each for Hollidaysburg by winning all three phases -- best ball, alternate shot and scramble.

Altoona got 2.5 points from the team of Justin Pfeffer and Devin McNellis.

Tyrone tops Everett

TYRONE -- Tyrone edged Everett, 3-2, in high school girls tennis.

Jocelyn Diehl won a singles match for the Lady Eagles (7-4), and the doubles teams of Cassidy Fleck and Grace Zimmerman, and Addison Davis and Sydney Beeman also prevailed.

Central prevails

MARTINSBURG -- The Central High School girls tennis team defeated Clearfield, 4-1.

Breslyn Beech and Taryn Walters won singles matches for the Lady Dragons (5-5), and Gabby Decker and Aubry Eckman, and Sofie Maldonado and Laura Longwell won doubles matches.

GIRLS SOCCER

Altoona girls nipped

DuBOIS -- The Altoona Area High School girls soccer team dropped to 3-5-1 with a 3-2 loss at DuBois.

Natalie Bumbarger scored for Altoona to tie it with 56 seconds left in the game. However, DuBois scored with 27 seconds left to win it.

Altoona also got a goal from Ava Frye against a DuBois team now 8-1. Anna Korney scored all three goals for DuBois.

Karlheim delivers for Heights

CURWENSVILLE — Lilly Karlheim scored the game-winning goal off a corner kick from Emma Bender as Cambria Heights beat Moshannon Valley, 2-1, in girls soccer.

Mele Lavelua scored the other goal for the Lady Highlanders (6-2), which also came in the second half.

Mo Valley (2-6-1) got a goal from Baylee London.
