STATE COLLEGE -- The Saint Francis women's golf team took third on Monday at the Toftrees Invitational.
Ellie Filer, an Altoona graduate, claimed first place at the tourney hosted by Penn State Altoona. On Sunday in the two-day event, Filer found herself tied in third place. During Monday's final round, the freshman surpassed the first two golfers going into the back nine on the course, ultimately coming out on top on the 18th hole. On Sunday, she marked her scorecard with a 79 (+8), and Monday, with a 78 (+7). Her two-round score was a 157 (+15). She tallied 13 pars and seven birdies.
Sarah Miller, a Bishop Carroll graduate, also had a top-10 finish for SFU for her collegiate debut. The freshman finished the invitational in eighth place. She carded an 84 (+13) and an 82 (+11), with a two-round score of 166 (+24). Miller recorded 16 pars and one birdie.
The host team finished in eighth place.
The Lions shot 401 in Monday's round, their best team score since Penn State Altoona brought the program on as an NCAA sport in 2024-25. It also represented a 14-shot improvement over the squad's Sunday score.
Alexis Peacock, a Hollidaysburg graduate, finished in a tie for 21st place out of 50 individuals. She posted a two-shot improvement from her first-round score, carding a 92 on Monday to finish with 186 strokes.
Clarissa Long, an Altoona graduate, took 43rd place with a combined score of 218, including her 107 on Monday that was four shots better than her day-one score. Alyssa Franks (Bishop Guilfoyle) ended in a tie for 45th place, shooting 124 on Monday and compiling a total score of 235.
On the men's side, Penn State Altoona concluded its first home tournament of the season finishing ninth in the event.
The Lions shot 297 in Monday's round, a seven-shot improvement over Sunday's score. Penn State Altoona finished the two-day tournament tied for ninth place out of 16 teams with a 601.
Nicholas Helsley, a Bishop Guilfoyle graduate, shot 75 in the second round, improving by one stroke. The PSU Altoona junior totaled 151 strokes to tie for 44th place. Daniel Batrus, and Altoona graduate, finished the invitational tied for 69th place after competing as an individual. He had a five-stroke improvement from day one, carding a 77 to finish with 159 strokes.
