Doubles team helps Lady Tigers defeat rival Lady Lions

HOLLIDAYSBURG -- Hollidaysburg's No. 2 doubles team of Olivia Panaro and Rina Stiffler came through with a 6-3, 6-4 victory to give the Lady Tigers a 3-2 win over rival Altoona in high school girls tennis action on Tuesday.

Hollidaysburg, which received singles wins from Crosby Denis and Grace Muriceak, improved to 4-0, while Altoona, which got a singles win from Andie Adams and a doubles victory from Emma Hovan and Addy Mitchell, fell to 4-1.

SINGLES: 1, Denis, H, def. S. Irwin, 6-1, 6-2. 2, Muriceak, H, def. Williams, 6-0, 6-1. 3, Adams, A, def. Moritz, 4-6, 6-0, 7-5.

CC tops Ridge

NEW PARIS -- Central Cambria improved to 4-2 with a 4-1 win over Chestnut Ridge in girls tennis.

Ireland DeBalli and Madison Dietz won singles matches for CC, and Chloe Sandoval and Daisy Smith, and Kat Kubat and Madalyn Bobby won doubles matches. Haley Hundley won at No. 1 singles for Ridge.

BEDFORD --The Central boys went 5-0 in its Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference matchup, beating Bedford, Penn Cambria, Central Cambria, Bishop Carroll and Chestnut Ridge in high school golf play at Omni Bedford Springs Resort Golf Course.

Central and Bedford both finished at 324, but the Scarlet Dragons won the tiebreaker when their fifth-best scorer, Tristan Ritchey (86), bested Bedford's Noah Nelson (89).

Central was led by Brock Beach's 79, while Bedford's top golfer was Gavin Kollander at 79.

Penn Cambria, third at 327, got an 80 from Garrett Ligas while Central Cambria (337) was led by Andrew Kasecky's 78. Finishing four was Bishop Carroll (364), led by Ethan Holtz at 90. Chestnut Ridge was fifth (389), led by Colton Boozer's 88.

Portage wins two

JOHNSTOWN -- The Portage boys golf team earned a team score of 260 to beat Conemaugh Valley (269) and Turkeyfoot Valley (291) at Berkley Hills Golf Course.

Kendall Bednarski was the medalist for Portage with a 44.

Altoona girls go 1-1

The Altoona girls golf team went 1-1, beating Northern Cambria, 154-168, and falling to State College, 290-322, at Park Hills Golf Club.

Altoona's Kennady Bankert was the medalist in the loss to State College with a round of 92, and Altoona's Natalie Baker shot a 49 to earn medalist honors in the win over Northern Cambria.
