Panthers’ QB named to Manning list

PITTSBURGH -- Following a record-setting season-opening performance, Pitt quarterback Mason Heintschel was named one of the Manning Award's Eight Stars of the Week, selected to the Davey O'Brien Great 8 for Week 1 and recognized as the ACC Quarterback of the Week.

In a win over Miami of Ohio, Heintschel completed 31-of-41 passes (75.6) for 453 yards and seven touchdowns without an interception.

He also led the Panthers with 476 yards of total offense, accounting for nearly 74 percent of Pitt's 646 total yards.

Shuke gets noticed

Penn State Altoona women's tennis freshman Kasey Shuke was named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference's Player of the Week on Tuesday.

Shuke is a graduate of Bedford High School.

Shuke had a strong performance in the No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles positions this past week to help the Lions go 4-0 to start the 2026 season, winning all four of her singles matches and all three in doubles.

Ireland honored

Penn State Altoona junior Jayson Ireland was named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference's Offensive Player of the Week for men's soccer.

Ireland, who is a graduate of Burrell High School out of the WPIAL, finished last week with one goal and one assist.

Opener announced

UNIVERSITY PARK -- The Penn State baseball team will open its 2027 campaign in the Atlantis Collegiate Baseball Series against Auburn.

The three-day tournament is set for Feb. 19-21. The three-game series will be played at Andre Rodgers National Stadium.
