EBENSBURG -- Bishop Guilfoyle Academy won the District 6 Class 2A Sectionals Wednesday afternoon at Ebensburg Country Club with a team score of 320, eight shots better than runner-up Richland.
West Shamokin and Westmont Hilltop, the third- and fourth-place team finishers also advanced to the District 6 championship, and one of them will be crowned the title winner at the District 6 match Tuesday at Sinking Valley Country Club.
"I am extremely proud of the fight and determination the team had today and all year so far. The conditions were tough today with wind and some pin placements and Ebensburg is a challenging course," Bishop Guilfoyle coach Robby Okonak said. "Their staff had it in great condition considering all the rain. Our guys kept their heads down and played solid golf to come out on top today. We are proud to advance to the District tournament and excited to get to work to accomplish our goals."
The Marauders' Grant Okonak finished tied for second individually with Central's Cody Clapper.
Westmont Hilltop's Colby Carson won the sectional with a 76, one shot better than Okonak and Clapper.
Central Cambria's Andrew Kasecky and BG's Carter Boland were part of a five-way tie at 78 for fourth place.
The top 30 individual golfers and ties advanced to the District 6 meet.
Local golfers advancing included BG's Aidan Sheehan (10th, 82) and Troy Nachtman (15th, 83), Penn Cambria's Colten Karlheim (10th, 82), Kingston Durbin (10th, 82) and Callen Gides (25th, 85), Tyrone's Blake Sweitzer (15th, 83), Juniata Valley's Ethan Scalia (15th, 83), Bishop Carroll's Ryen Myers (20th, 84), Central's Brock Beach (20th, 84) and Ben Hartman (29th, 86) and Bellwood-Antis' Tucker McCloskey (25th, 85) and Avery Bardell (29th, 86).
