Altoona edges Central tennis

MARTINSBURG -- Altoona edged Central, 3-2, behind singles wins by Andie Adams and Adalia Lopez-Oakes and a win at No. 1 doubles by Erika Irwin and Ryleigh Campbell in high school girls tennis on Tuesday.

Central got wins from Breslyn Beech at No. 1 singles and the team of Abbi Coppersmith and Sofie Maldonado at No. 2 doubles.

SINGLES: 1, Beech, C, def. S. Irwin, 6-3, 6-4; 2, Adams, A, def. Walters, 6-0, 6-2; 3, Lopez-Oakes, A, def. Weidlich, 6-4, 6-2.

CC tops Huntingdon

HUNTINGDON -- Central Cambria downed Huntingdon, 5-0, with doubles wins from Madalyn Bobby and Kat Kubat at No. 1 and Nora Anderson and Bailee Saylor at No. 2 in high school girls tennis.

Taryn Ream and Madison Dietz won their singles matches, and Daisy Smith received a forfeit win for the 8-3 Lady Red Devils.

Eagles triumph

TYRONE -- Tyrone defeated Clearfield, 5-0, in high school girls tennis behind singles wins from Ezri Bumgarner, Jocelyn Diehl and Cassie Behrer.

Cassidy Fleck and Grace Zimmerman won at No. 1 doubles, and the team of Sydney Beeman and Genevieve Naylor won at No. 2 doubles.

Tyrone shines

TYRONE -- Brenson Davis won the boys race for Tyrone in 18:25 to help the Golden Eagles top Bellwood-Antis, 18-38, and Philipsburg-Osceola, 19-38. The Blue Devils topped P-O, 25-30 in high school cross country.

Jonathan Bickel was sixth for B-A with a time of 21:07.

The Lady Eagles edged the Lady Blue Devils, 28-32, on the strength of a third-place finish in 24:15 by Sage Harbst and a fourth-place finish by Ella Savino in 24:15. Bellwood-Antis, which topped Philipsburg-Osceola as did Tyrone, 15-50, got a first-place time from Blake Pennington in 22:04 and a runner-up performance by Julia Kraft in 23:35.

B-A's Jaelee Miller, Ady Helsel, Kennedy Drost and Leighton Lambert swept the junior high girls race.

Central tops Bedford

ORE HILL -- Cody Clapper's medalist score of 71 helped Central defeat Bedford, 399-427, in a high school boys golf match on Tuesday at Iron Masters Country Club.

Rory Martin added a 78 for the Scarlet Dragons, and Ben Hartman and Brock Beach each carded an 82.

Gavin Kolander led the Bisons with an 82.

Tigers go 5-1

SALIX -- Hollidaysburg went 5-1 in a Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference crossover boys golf match at Windber Country Club with a score of 309 led by Tyler Steiner's 73 and his teammate Mason Bender's 74.

Richland was the only team to beat the Golden Tigers with a score of 305 led by medalist Liam Roman's 72.

Tyrone went 4-2 with a score of 334 led by Blake Sweitzer's 75. Central Cambria went 2-4 with a score of 357 and got a team-best 78 from Andrew Kasecky.
