KIRKLAND, Wash. -- The Johnstown-based West Suburban 14U softball team fell to 1-1 in the Little League Junior Softball World Series with a 2-0 loss to Foothill of Palo Cedro, Calif., on Monday.
Foothill's Kylie Kenyon was a one-person wrecking crew as she fired a complete-game five-hit shutout with no walks and also delivered a two-run first-inning home run for the only runs of the game.
Cameron Mash, Camdyn Westover, Abigail Claar, Reese Pinizzotto and Irelyn Scott managed to get singles off of Kenyon, but West Suburban was not able to get a key hit.
West Suburban will continue pool play at 4 p.m. today against the Southwest representative, Shiner, Texas, before wrapping up pool play on Wednesday against Bacolod City, Philippines, representing Asia-Pacific.

McMullen tops KarPro
McMullen Furniture overcame a 9-3 deficit by scoring seven runs in the fifth inning and three more in the sixth to edge KarPro, 13-10, in Altoona Teener Minor League action at Seitz Field on Monday.
Logan Bellot drove in four runs for McMullen, and Callan Mills and Gage Ross each had two hits and two RBIs. Grayson Rakar went 3-for-3 with two RBIs for KarPro.

Murphy, Sisto prevail
HOLLIDAYSBURG -- The team of Sandy Murphy and Chris Sisto finished at 38 to win the championship flight of the Sylvan Hills Ladies Golf Association Member-Guest Tournament.
Placing second with a 40 was the team of Lou Ann Donlan and Sandy Smith, who won on a cardoff with Kim Straesser and Joelle Sweeney (40).
The first flight winner was the team of Carole Laich and Danene Litz (44), followed by Lisa Michelone-Barb Fiore (45) and Rita Brouse-Barb Kooman (45). Cathy Beam and Angela Gardner won the second flight (43) followed by Rosey McCoy-Sandy Lantzy (47) and Dorothy Cavalet-Jean Dunmyer (47).
The third flight winners were Maureen Dodson and Linda Zorger (47), followed by Marsha Hunter-Helen Ivory (49) and Pam Ergler and Judy Laverick (51).
Skill prize winners included Murphy and Brenda Flick (longest drive), closest to the pin (Barb Belko) and longest putt (Cavalet).
In men's action at Sylvan Hills, the two-man scramble was won by Nick Matteson and Luke Grove with a low gross of 34. The low net winners were Gene Frye-Drew Krider (28).
Matteson and Grove remain the league leaders in the team standings. Eric Johnson had a closest to the hole honor on No. 2, and Gerry Rubritz had one on No. 4.
Swimmer gets medals
Swimmer David Lenz
STATE COLLEGE -- A swimmer with ties to the Altoona area, David Lenz of Highland Village, Texas, earned four first-place finishes and one second at the State Games of America held this past weekend.
Lenz, 63, is the son of Richard and Margaret Lenz, originally from Gallitzin and Altoona, respectively.
Lenz has been swimming competitively since childhood, but this was his first showing in a national competition.
