SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT -- The Pennsylvania representative in the 2026 Little League World Series saw its play in the tournament end on Monday night.
West Chester East Side, the Mid-Atlantic Regional champ, finished 0-2 in the tourney after a 6-5 loss to Phenix City of Alabama in seven innings.
West Chester grabbed a 5-0 lead with two runs in the first and three in the third. But Phenix City scored five in the bottom of the third to tie the game, then won it on Brooks Cameron's bases-loaded single in the bottom of the seventh.
Kinley Rasmus threw 4ª scoreless innings of relief to earn the win.
Astros need a GM
HOUSTON -- General manager Dana Brown and the Houston Astros have mutually agreed to part ways.
The team announced the move Monday when it was tied for first place in the AL West. Brown's contract was set to expire at the end of the season. Senior adviser Jeff Bagwell and assistant general managers Charles Cook, Gavin Dickey and Connor Huff will take over Brown's responsibilities while team owner Jim Crane will oversee baseball operations for now.
The move comes after the Astros (65-66) went 3-6 on a homestand.
Losing a starter
SEATTLE -- Seattle Mariners rookie shortstop Colt Emerson will have season-ending surgery to repair a partially dislocated tendon in his left wrist and is expected to be ready for the start of next season.
General manager Justin Hollander said Monday that Emerson will have the procedure on Wednesday. He says Emerson has been bothered by the injury since before spring training. The 21-year-old Emerson signed a $95 million contract before he made his big league debut.
Hope for Marte
PHOENIX -- The Arizona Diamondbacks hope Ketel Marte will return to their lineup next week. Marte disappeared unexpectedly before a game in Boston recently and was placed on the restricted list, then moved to the 10-day injured list with mild knee inflammation.
Arizona manager Torey Lovullo says the plan is for Marte to return for a home series against the Philadelphia Phillies starting August 31. Marte began taking batting practice Monday, and the team is encouraged by his progress.
This is the second straight year Marte has gone AWOL from the team. Lovullo emphasized the importance of creating a supportive environment for Marte's return.
