Youth football in Blair County is entering a new chapter with the creation of the Blair County Youth Football League, a countywide organization designed to bring communities together, strengthen participation in youth tackle football and cheerleading, and create new opportunities for athletes throughout the region.
The newly formed league brings together programs representing school districts across Blair County, expanding competition beyond traditional school district boundaries and giving young athletes the opportunity to compete against communities throughout the county.
Prior to the creation of the BCYFL, many local youth football programs operated independently or participated in separate leagues outside their immediate communities. The new league brings those organizations together under a more unified structure while allowing each community to maintain its own identity and traditions.
The league will feature tackle football divisions for grades 3/4 and 5/6, along with youth cheerleading and flag football programs. BCYFL is also looking to support the continued growth of flag football, including the addition of girls flag football.
The inaugural "Tackle Football Weigh-In & Scrimmage Day" is this Saturday in Claysburg and Roaring Spring. For grades 3-4 in tackle football, weigh-ins will begin at 8 a.m. at the athletic field in Claysburg. For grades 5-6, weigh-ins will begin at 11 a.m. at the Fairview Ave. field in Roaring Spring.
Scrimmages will immediately follow all weigh-ins.
