Bishop Guilfoyle Academy's boys golf team opened the season by winning its own Park Hills Invitational on Thursday with a 10-under best-ball round of 60 at Park Hills Golf Course.
Grant Okonak, who finished third individually with a 2-over par score of 72, Carter Boland, Aidan Sheehan and Troy Nachtman made up the winning team.
On the girls side, Hollidaysburg won the championship with a 4-under par scramble score of 66. The winning team was made up of Crosby Denis, Piper Weidley, Arie Kerstetter and Camilla Yost.
River Valley's Brady Doak won the boys individual championship with a score of 1-over par 71, winning a USGA tiebreaker with Hollidaysburg's Tyler Steiner, who also shot a 71.
Steiner, alongside Sam McLanahan, Mason Bender and Dominik Johnston, made up the Golden Tigers team that finished second in the boys team competition with a score of 8-under 62. Richland was third with a 64.
Richland finished second in the girls scramble with a 70, and Penn Cambria with a team of Mikayla Durbin, Kendall McConnell, Ava Wirfel and Celia Barnish were third with a 73.
Central strong at Invite
STATE COLLEGE -- Central shot a team score of 40-over par and finished eighth out of 25 teams in the Class 2A portion of the high school boys Happy Valley Invitational.
Tristan Ritchey carded a 79, Cody Clapper shot 80, Ben Hartman had an 83 and Brock Beach shot 86 for the Scarlet Dragons. Ritchey was tied for 24th individually, and Clapper was tied for 28th.
Central Cambria finished 12th and was led by Andrew Kasecky's 74. Cannon Forcellini and Ben Bearer each shot an 89, and Maison Link carded a 90. Kasecky finished tied for 11th individually.
Tyrone was led by Blake Sweitzer's 78. Sweitzer finished tied for 21st individually.
The Central Cambria girls finished seventh out of 12 2A teams and were led by Bella Mesoras' score of 94. Maddie Dumm carded a 96. Mesoras was tied for 22nd individually.
In Class 3A boys, Fox Chapel's Carson Kittsley won the individual championship with an eye-opening score of 9-under par 63 to edge State College's Luke McGraw by one shot. State College's Ty Miller and Luke Ladrido each shot 4-under to tie for fifth, and Jacky Sun was at 2-under par 70 to finish tied for 10th.
Altoona finished 18th out of 25 teams in Class 3A at 37-over par. Brandt Hite led the Mountain Lions with a 79. Owen White shot 81, Ryan Aiken carded an 82 and Anthony Riccio shot 83.
State College won the 3A boys championship at 13-under par.
Portage splits
JOHNSTOWN -- Ferndale topped Portage, 248-257, and Claysburg-Kimmel, 248-277, at Berkley Hills Golf Course.
Portage's Nathan Phillips was the medalist, shooting a 40 in the nine-hole match. Kendall Bednarski added a 50 for the Mustangs.
Chase Sanders shot a 41 for Ferndale. Owen Swindle's 46 was tops for the Bulldogs, and Garrett Bass added a 49.
FERNDALE (248): Sanders 41, Hendershot 44, Robine 54, Keith 54, Heider 55.
PORTAGE (257): Phillips 40, Bednarski 50, Rosemas 52, Krumenacker 57, Gabel 58.
