J&P Auto to meet Cumming for Minor title

After losing Saturday, J&P Auto Mart bounced back by scoring five runs with two outs in the top of the seventh inning to edge Furrer Beverage, 8-4, in the Altoona Teener Minor Division double-elimination playoffs on Sunday at Seitz Field.

J&P (2-1) will now face 2-0 Cumming Motors at 5 p.m. tonight in the championship with a second game scheduled for 7:30 if J&P wins the first game.

Down 4-3 with two outs in the seventh, J&P scored runs on a balk, bases-loaded walk, a two-run single from Marcello Bongiorno and an RBI single by Lane Cassarly.

Maverick Wentz drove in two runs for J&P, and Bongiorno and Jack Roland each had two hits.

Cumming tops J&P

Trailing 5-1, Cumming Motors scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth and added eight runs in the bottom of the sixth to down J&P Auto Mart in a winners' bracket game at Seitz Field on Saturday.

Grant Wharton pitched two scoreless innings of relief to earn the win, and Dick Pardee and Avery Sowers each had two hits. Jack Roland had two hits for J&P, and Maverick Wentz drove in two runs.

Furrer Beverage overcame an early 5-0 deficit by scoring four runs in each of the second and fourth innings to eliminate Locker Room, 8-5, at Seitz Field on Saturday.
