Denis, Malausky lead Lady Tigers to scholastic golf win

NEW ALEXANDRIA -- Crosby Denis won medalist honors with a 38 in a nine-hole girls golf match that resulted in a 182-245 victory for Hollidaysburg over River Valley at Mannitto Golf Course on Wednesday in high school action.

Maliah Malausky shot a 39 for the Lady Tigers, who improved to 2-1.

HOLLIDAYSBURG (182): Denis 38, Malausky, Yost 52, Weidley 53.

RIVER VALLEY (245): Dixon 57, Twinchek 58, Findley 61, McDowell 69.

Records: Hollidaysburg (2-1); River Valley (0-1).

Elder wins at Iron Masters

ROARING SPRING -- Wes Elder shot a 287 to win the championship flight at the Iron Masters Country Club Championship.

Finishing second was Ron Hinish at 293, followed by Spencer Hinish was a 294 and Robbie Keith fourth with a 302.

The first flight winner was Mark Nycum (156) followed by Randy Jarratt (160) and Tyler Jarratt (164). Rory Martin won the second flight (159) followed by Don McCready (161) and Adam Baird (166). Derek Martin captured the third flight title (184) followed by Duane Geisler (186) and Joe Burke (189).

The ladies title was won by Gwen Paden (171) with Anita Jo Petrusky second (179).

Lamey-Huggler shine

HUNTINGDON -- The team of Bob Lamey and Gerry Huggler went 4-2 during week 6 action at the Big Orange Golf League at the Huntingdon Country Club.

Two teams -- Geoff Clarke-Ed Gargula and Alan Herbster-Keith Black -- both went 3-3 while the Phil Thompson-Larry Newton team went 2-4.

Clarke, Lamey and Thompson all tied for low gross score at 38 while Newton was the low net winner (35).

The shot of the day was Rick Laab -- subbing for Gargula -- hit a chip shot on No. 11 for birdie.

Matteson gets low net

HOLLIDAYSBURG -- Nick Matteson shot a 37 to record the low net score at Sylvan Hills Golf Course in Monday league play.

The low net was recorded by Brian Smith, who shot a 32. Roger Elensky and Rodger Fair were closest-to-the-pin winners, and individual hole winners were Gabe Graham, Jeff Gourley and E.J. Madey. Luke Grove and Matteson lead the league.

Hole-in-one

n Anthony Evangelisto sank a hole-in-one while playing at the Sinking Valley Country Club.

He made the shot on No. 10 from the gold tees using a gap wedge. It was witnessed by Dell and Mike Campagna.

n Anthony Della made an ace on No. 5 at Windber Country Club from 140 yards out with a gap wedge. It was witnessed by Trista Layman.
