BG boys golf piling up victories

EBENSBURG -- The Bishop Guilfoyle Academy boys golf team defeated both Bishop Carroll and Penn Cambria on Monday afternoon in high school action at the Ebensburg Country Club.

The Marauders, who improved to 14-1, finished at 306 while the Panthers wound up with a 332. The Huskies were third at 360.

Grant Okonak led BG with a 74 while Penn Cambria's top scorer was Colten Karlheim. Carroll was led by Ryen Myers' 80.

Portage downed

LORETTO -- Windber topped Northern Cambria and Portage in a tri-match at Immergrun Golf Course.

Windber shot a 213 in the nine-hole match, the Colts had 252 and were led by Luke Blickenderfer's 42 and Portage carded a 273 and got its best score from Nathan Phillips, who shot a 49.

Hayden Miller's 38 was the medalist score for the Ramblers.

LATROBE -- Altoona finished seventh out of eight teams at the Wildcat Invitational Tournament at Latrobe Country Club with a team score of 445, which counted five golfers' 18-hole rounds.

Brandt Hite led the Mountain Lions with an 83.

Fox Chapel won the Invite with a team score of 384, and Carson Kittsley was the individual champion with a 72 after he defeated Pine Richland's Sam Schneck on a playoff hole.

MCCONNELLSBURG -- Claysburg-Kimmel dropped three matches at the Great Cove Golf Course, losing to Rockwood, McConnellsburg and North Star.

The Bulldogs (209) were led by PJ Lewis' 48. Eli Show of Rockwood was the medalist at 36.

Rockwood finished with a 155, followed by McConnellsburg (167) and North Star (183).

CLEARFIELD -- Central Cambria defeated Clearfield, 5-0, to open its high school girls tennis season with a victory on Monday.

Taryn Ream, Ireland DeBalli and Madison Dietz won singles matches. The team of Chloe Sandoval and Daisy Smith won at No. 1 doubles, and Madalyn Bobby and Kat Kubat completed the sweep at No. 2 doubles.

Dragons edge Eagles

MARTINSBURG -- Central edged Tyrone, 3-2, and got a key victory from Breslyn Beech at No. 1 singles in a closely-contested match over Tyrone's Ezri Bumgarner.

Gabby Decker won at No. 3 singles for the Lady Dragons as did Laura Longwell and Sofie Maldonado at No. 2 doubles.

Tyrone got wins from Jocelyn Diehl at No. 2 singles and the team of Cassidy Fleck and Grace Zimmerman at No. 1 doubles.
