When top-seeded Tyrone Tire & Automotive met up with second-seeded Your Building Center in the regular season, YBC came away with a two-point victory in a back-and-forth affair.

Tuesday night's Division 4 championship of the Central Blair Rec Commission's Lakemont Park Summer Basketball League appeared well on its way to a similar finish after one half of play.

However, Tyrone Tire took control early in the second half with a pair of 3-pointers, and never looked back in a 50-37 victory at Lakemont Park.

"The first game we played against them, we lost by two points which was a real tough one," Luke Adams of Tyrone Tire & Automotive said. "We didn't look back as we went undefeated after that. So, that was the best part."

With the two teams knotted at 17-17 through one half of action, the second half of play began much the same way the first half went as the two teams traded baskets on four trips down the floor.

Following a trey by Adams, YBC got a response from deep by Crippin Taylor to once again tie the contest at 22-22.

Joel Martin, who registered all 10 of his points in the second half, drilled a shot from beyond the 3-point line to give Tyrone Tire a lead it didn't relinquish the rest of the way.

"I think it was just motivation between all of us. The fact that we could pass the ball and have confidence in each other was the best part of it," Adams said.

Leading by one (27-26), TTA recorded six unanswered to take a 33-26 edge before Andy Lytle hit a shot for YBC to bring it back to five.

Adams, who led his team with 14 points, was thrown to the ground on a rebound attempt that resulted in an intentional foul being called. The Bishop Guilfoyle graduate from 2020 canned both free throws to push the lead back up to seven at 35-28.

The momentum completely swung in Tyrone Tire & Automotive's direction from that point as Martin delivered buckets on back-to-back trips down the floor -- the first from 3-point range and the second a two-pointer -- before Dillon McKeehen tacked on two more to stretch the lead to 42-28.

"Things really did click (for us) after that," Adams said. "After that, we got the energy, we all just started hitting our shots. The first time we played them, we didn't make a single three. That was one of our goals this time was to get a few three's."

After a bucket by Your Building Center halted the 7-0 spurt by TTA, consecutive layups from Marquis Miller and Ryan O'Leary gave Tyrone Tire a 16-point advantage at 46-30.

Matt Michael hit the first of two free throws for YBC, but a McKeehen layup gave TTA its largest lead of the evening of 17 (48-31).

With the game all but over, Taylor, who led YBC with 15 points, nailed his final two 3-pointers to make the score 49-37.

A McKeehen free throw set the final score on the ensuing trip down the floor.

"It (being able to win the championship) just shows a lot of toughness," Adams said. "… It really just shows you how you can have fun with basketball too even during your adult life. That's the best part is that all these guys ... that they adopted me into this family that they have. It's been real fun, and for a couple of years we've been trying to get here -- we've finally got it."
