Fourth inning gives Eldorado lead in Teener Major series

Sometimes, you just need one swing to change a baseball game around, whether that's a key hit, key play or a key inning.
The latter happened for Eldorado Civics Association Monday night in game one of its Altoona Teener League 15U Major Division Championship Series. Eldorado used a three-run fourth inning to spark the team to a 5-3 win over Sheetz at Seitz Field.
"We're just gelling at the right time right now," Eldorado Civics Association coach Mike Akins said. "Good pitching, good defense, timely hitting."
Sheetz did land the first punch in the first inning as Shane Gority ripped a double on a line drive to right field. He scored along with Chance Butler on the next at bat as Jayson Jimenez knocked them in with a two-run double to make it 2-0.
Eldorado Civics cut into the lead in the top of the second. With runners at first and third, Dylen Anders registered an RBI single which scored Carter Gibson to cut the deficit in half.
Then the levee broke in the fourth. With the bases loaded, Xavier Farabaugh launched a two-run double which helped give Eldorado Civics the lead. Anders added on an RBI groundout for insurance to make it 4-2.
"We had one bad inning and then unfortunately we just couldn't hold them off," Sheetz coach Richie Butler said. "Shane pitched a really good game, and Chance came into close for us which was great. We just couldn't hold them off."
In the fifth, both sides traded runs as Gibson drove in Spencer Akins after he reached on a leadoff double to make it 5-2. Akins was 3-for-4 with a run scored.
Sheetz responded as Butler reached on an error before Jimenez drove him in on an RBI single, but that's as close as Sheetz got. Jimenez finished up going 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
In the bottom of the sixth, Sheetz had its best chance to pull ahead as Christian Moyer reached on a double and Cooper Greenleaf recorded a single. However, Akins struck out the next three batters to end the threat.
Lucas Farabaugh led the way on the mound for Eldorado as he went five innings, allowing three runs on five hits, walking three and striking out eight. Akins followed that with two more frames, giving up three hits while walking one and striking out four.
"He did a great job locating," Richie Butler said of Lucas Farabaugh. "We got to do a little bit better job of hitting the baseball. Tomorrow's another day. It's a fight every day."
Mike Akins was proud that his team got to Sheetz starting pitcher Gority, who went 5• innings while giving up five runs on eight hits, walking one and striking out four.
"He's their ace, he's their ace for a reason," he said. "He's a great pitcher. We've had trouble with him all year. We finally got to him enough to get the win."
Game two is set for tonight at 6 back at Seitz Field.
"We want to finish it," Mike Akins said. "We have our ace going, and we'll see how it goes. Got to do the same thing again."
