Altoona boys, girls come away with golf victories

The Altoona Area High School boys golf team downed Central Mountain, 336-351, at Park Hills Golf Club on Thursday.

Brandt Hite shot an 81 for the Mountain Lions, and Reese Hite shot an 83.

CENTRAL MOUNTAIN (351): Frayel 80, Karstetter 83, Hill 93, Miller 95.

Portage second

LORETTO -- The Portage boys finished with a team score of 298 and placed behind West Shamokin (234) but ahead of Conemaugh Valley (305) at Immergun Golf Course.

West Shamokin's Nick Krizmanich shot a low round of 42. Kendall Bednarski (53) and Nathan Phillips (54) led Portage.

WEST SHAMOKIN (234): Krizmanich 42, Cook 43, Merrow 44, Scrips 52, Blews 53.

Jackson leads Lady Lions

The Altoona Area High School girls golf team defeated River Valley, 153-173, at Park Hills Golf Club.

Vionna Jackson was the medalist for Altoona with a 47. Kennedy Bankert, Taylor Knepper and Karis McGhee each shot a 53 for the Lady Lions.

RIVER VALLEY (173): Fridley 56, Twinchek 57, McDowell 60, Dixon 63, Vadala 66.

Denis shoots a 35

NORTHERN CAMBRIA -- Crosby Denis fired a low round of 35 to lead the Hollidaysburg girls over Northern Cambria, 222-270, at Chetremon Golf Course.

Hollidaysburg improved to 7-1.

Foursome win

HOLLIDAYSBURG -- Robin Weaver, Bill Blanset, Herb Bolger and Don Stubbs finished first in this week's Sylvan Hills Butch Focht Senior Men's Tournament with a 35.

Joe DeGennaro, Andy Cameron, David Johns and Joe Maus won a card off with 36 for second, and John Roland, Rodger Fair, Jeff Vaughn and Tim Yingling were third.

Hole-in-one

Beau Rabel, a member of the Hollidaysburg boys golf team, made a hole-in-one at the Scotch Valley Country Club on Thursday.

Rabel made the shot on No. 8, 206 yards long using a 6-iron. The shot was witnessed by Bryan James.
