Lafferty signs with Florida Panthers

Hollidaysburg native Sam Lafferty is taking his talents to South Beach.

According to the Florida Panthers, Lafferty agreed to a one-year, two-way $850,000 contract on Wednesday.

The 31-year old forward spent last season with the Chicago Blackhawks where he scored a goal and had an assist in 29 games played. It was his second stint with the club.

He joins a Panther team that is looking to get back to the Stanley Cup playoffs after missing it this past season.

The Panthers had won back-to-back Stanley Cup championships in 2024 and 2025 and made an appearance in the 2023 Final.

A 2014 fourth-round draft pick of the Pittsburgh Penguins, he has also spent time in Toronto and Vancouver with those organizations.

This year he was selected as a member of the U.S. Men’s National Team at the World Championships. It was the second time he was chosen to represent Team USA.

The Panthers have been busy with trades and free agency with the team acquiring goalie Jacob Markstrom from New Jersey and another goalie, Akira Schmid, from Vegas this week.

Starting at $3.83/week.
