Pro Fab Solutions has No. 2 playoff spot with win in City League game

Pro Fab Solutions wrapped up the No. 2 seed for the upcoming playoffs with a 9-8 victory over Sheetz in the final night of the regular season in the Altoona Greater City Baseball League on Monday at Juniata Field.

Pro Fab finished with a 15-5 mark and will face No. 3 Sheetz, which ended up 13-7, in the semifinal series beginning Friday. Top seed Lilly Conrad Chiropractic and fourth seed Blair County Oil will meet in the other semifinal series.

Luke Mento delivered three hits and two RBIs for Pro Fab, and winning pitcher Rich Ball also had three hits. Aidan Steinbugl went 4-for-4 for Sheetz, and Lucas Muffie drove in three runs.

12U drops opener

PITTSTON -- Hollidaysburg suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 loss in the opening round of the Little League Baseball Pennsylvania 12U State Tournament to East Side of West Chester on Monday morning.

Hollidaysburg led 1-0 entering the final inning, but East Side's Darren Molineux clouted a two-run homer to give his team a 2-1 lead. Hollidaysburg put two runners on base in the bottom of the sixth, but East Side's Ryan Donnelly got a strikeout to end the game.

Donnelly threw three shutout innings of relief. He and starter Cole Warner combined to hold Hollidaysburg to four hits.

Hollidaysburg had taken a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Aiden Anderson drove in Blake Chamberlain.

Hollidaysburg, the Section 4 champion, will now have to win six straight games in the double-elimination tournament to earn a spot in the Mid-Atlantic Regionals in Bristol, Conn., Aug. 8-14. That task begins at 10 a.m. today against Milton.

11U team eliminated

SELINSGROVE -- The Hollidaysburg 11U team bowed out of the Little League Baseball Pennsylvania State Tournament on Monday with an 8-7 setback to West Point of Greensburg.

Hollidaysburg went 3-2 in the double-elimination tournament. West Point will face Council Rock Newtown in the championship round for the right to advance to the East Regional in Danvers, Mass., Aug. 2-7.

Hollidaysburg jumped out to a 6-0 lead after three innings, but West Point rallied with three runs in the fourth and five in the top of the sixth and held on for the win.

Charles Saunders had two hits for West Point, and Benjamin Kohl drove in two runs. Liam Weikert, who struck out 10 and gave up three earned runs in five innings on the mound, and Simon Rettig each had two hits for Hollidaysburg.

McMullen wins first

McMullen Furniture won its first game of the season with an 11-1 victory over Furrer Beverage in Altoona Teener Minor League action at Seitz Field Monday.

McMullen scored seven runs in the fifth inning. Luca Fanelli hit an inside-the-park home run in the seventh inning. Nicholas Seymour struck out 13 for the complete-game win.
