Pitt men’s basketball adds 2 through portal

PITTSBURGH — A’lahn Sumler, a 6-foot-4 redshirt senior guard from Waterbury, Conn., is transfering to the Pitt men’s basketball program for the 2026-27 season after leading the Big South Conference in scoring and assists at Charleston Southern.

He will have one year of eligibility remaining.

In 2025-26, Sumler started 18 of 28 games and averaged 18.9 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game while shooting 48.0 percent from the field (191-of-398) and 39.6 percent from three-point range (59-of-149). He generated more total points than any player in the Big South and ranked 53rd nationally in scoring at the end of the regular season.

In other transfer news, Jonathan Powell, a 6-foot-6 junior wing from Centerville, Ohio, will transfer from North Carolina.

Powell appeared in all 33 games for North Carolina in 2025-26, averaging 4.8 points and 2.4 rebounds in 16.3 minutes per game while shooting 36.5 percent (38-of-104) from three-point range, the third-highest mark on the team.
