Penn State Altoona finishes runner-up in AMCC

DuBOIS — The No. 2 seed Penn State Altoona softball team’s 2026 season came to an end on Saturday morning, when the Lions were defeated by No. 1 seed Penn State Behrend, 8-7, in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championship at Rose and Dennis Heindl Memorial Field.

Penn State Altoona (24-16) made a comeback in the top of the sixth inning, scoring five runs to make it 8-6, but it was not enough.

Madison Kennedy, a Central High School graduate went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored for PSU Altoona. Olivia Werkheiser went for 2-for-3 and had two RBIs and a run scored.

Altoona Area High School graduate Gracie Wilt went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Josselyn Nau started in the circle for the Lions, pitching three innings. Nau yielded six hits and four runs. Kennedy pitched three innings in relief, striking out one batter, while only conceding one hit and four runs.

Down 4-0, PSU Altoona scored its first run in the fourth. Karli Storm (Cambria Heights graduate) ran home following a groundout by Lauren Davidson.

Down 8-1, Penn State Altoona fought back with five runs in the top of the sixth and added another on Kennedy’s homer in the seventh.

Haines prevails

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Penn State’s Levi Haines won the 2026 Pan American Wrestling Championship at 79 kg Sunday with an unbeaten run through his weight class.

Haines went 4-0, all by technical superiority.
