Penn State Altoona women’s wrestling will hold seminar

The Penn State Altoona women’s wrestling program will be hosting a seminar this Saturday for girls in grades seventh through 12th.
The seminar, “Empower the Mat,” will begin at 11 a.m. at Lion’s Den, 124 W. 14th Ave. Suite 2 in Altoona.
The event, featuring PSU Altoona head coach Brinton Simington, his staff and some of the team’s female wrestlers, aims to empower young female wrestlers and promote the sport.
The cost is $30.
Blair rugby splits
The Blair United boys and girls rugby teams were both in action this past weekend with the girls taking down North Pitt United, 27-19, while losing 22-19 to West Virginia and 22-10 to Mount Lebanon. The boys team defeated State College, 42-12.
In the boys game, Blair United got early tries from Blake Kennedy and Tyler Rodgers, along with Joey Richardson. M.J. Flaugh added three conversions while Chase Gallagher contributed another.
Other tries for Blair were scored by Mason Stephens and Alex Britt. Stephens wound up being voted the Man of the Match.
On the girls side, in the 27-19 win over North Pitt United, Kate Steiner and Sophia Fleck each scored with assists from Alivia Barto and Evvie Sipes. In the loss to West Virginia, Steiner and Fleck both scored again. Against Mt. Lebanon, Steiner scored twice.
Next Sunday, the girls will play in a tournament in West Virginia, while the boys will compete in the D2 Rugby Pa. playoffs in Pittsburgh.
