Saint Francis University hosting prospective student-athletes; Mount Aloysius rifle team shines

LORETTO — Saint Francis University will host prospective student-athletes for special campus visit days on March 16 and March 30, marking a new chapter for Red Flash Athletics.
Saint Francis University’s Board of Trustees voted to reclassify its athletics program from NCAA Division I to Division III recently.
During the visit days, prospective students and their families will meet Red Flash coaching staffs, hear from current student-athletes and tour campus and athletic facilities.
Saint Francis is inviting 2026 and 2027 high school graduates to visit its campus this spring and discover how they can help shape the future of Red Flash Athletics.

Mount rifle shines
CRESSON — The Mount Aloysius rifle team delivered a historic performance at the Mid-Atlantic Conference Championships held in Massachusetts, capturing the overall conference title in both smallbore and air rifle while producing the 2026 air rifle individual champion and athlete of the year.
The Mounties have now claimed back-to-back conference championships in both events since becoming a program.
Mount Aloysius claimed the MAC smallbore championship with a team score of 2,245, outpacing the field behind consistent performances across all three positions. James Stevens led the way with a 572 while Kayla Trinkle followed with a 56. Molly Miller added a 558 and Samantha Hayman contributed a 554.
The Mounties continued their dominance the following day in air rifle, posting a championship score of 2,313. Molly Miller paced the squad with a match-best 589, while Trinkle (581), Sydney Castel (574) and Stevens (569) rounded out the scoring lineup.
Miller was crowned the 2026 MAC individual air rifle champion with her 589 and later earned MAC athlete of the year honors after finishing second in aggregate scoring with a 1,147 across both disciplines.
Miller was also presented with the Air Rifle Achievement Award for firing the highest air rifle score shot during the season (591).
Tinkle and Miller ended up with first-team honors while Castel and Stevens got second-team notice. Stevens was also named to the All-MAC rookie team.
Top third baseman
UNIVERSITY PARK –Penn State softball freshman third baseman Allison Oneacre picked up the nation’s No. 1 ranking in her position group entering March following a release from Softball America on Tuesday afternoon.
An Alpharetta, Ga., native, Oneacre has emerged as one of the most powerful names in college softball through the first month, highlighted by bashing the fourth-most home runs in the Big Ten Conference and 13th-most nationally with nine.
Oneacre has also been a menace in terms of run production overall, logging the third most RBIs and RBIs per game in the Big Ten with 33 and 1.65, respectively, ranking seventh in Division I in per-game numbers.
