Penn State Altoona softball swept the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference’s weekly awards on Monday.

Senior shortshop Karli Storm was its Player of the Week and junior right-handed pitcher Josselyn Nau was its Pitcher of the Week.

It was the first two games of the season for the Lady Lions.

Storm and Nau helped the Lions through a 1-1 week of non-conference play with a doubleheader split against Waynesburg last week.

In the 6-3 game one victory against Waynesburg, Storm (Cambria Heights) had one walk, one hit, and one run. In the game two loss, Storm was 2-for-2 with a home run, a walk, and a run. Throughout the week, Storm went 3-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored, two walks, and one RBI.

Nau started game one of the doubleheader and pitched a complete game. The junior allowed just one earned run and one walk while tallying seven strikeouts to secure the win.

Weather trouble

UNIVERSITY PARK — The Penn State baseball team’s game against St. Johns today was canceled due to anticipated inclement weather.

The Nittany Lions and the Red Storm are still scheduled to play on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

All games at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park are free admission for all ages.

Penn State, led by head coach Mike Gambino, is 3-6 this season. The Nittany Lions are coming off a 9-8 win over Indiana State in 11 innings.

Softball recognition

UNIVERSITY PARK — Penn State softball junior right-handed pitcher Bridget Nemeth garnered the No. 24 pitcher ranking in college softball according to Softball Americaon Monday.

Nemeth is off to a strong start in her second full season of action, ranking third on the Penn State roster and 11th in the Big Ten Conference with a 2.28 earned run average.

She is tied for the team lead in starts with six in addition to total pitching appearances with 11. She also leads with 30.2 innings of work in the circle through the first 20 opportunities of the 2026 campaign.

Nemeth’s 5.48 hits allowed per seven innings rank 10th in the Big Ten while her three individual victories are tied for second on the team.

The Lady Lions are 16-4 this season.

Duo help JC

HUNTINGDON — Two members of the Juniata College baseball team helped the Eagles jump out to a 2-0 start to the season this past weekend.

Connor Blough (Altoona) had a strong showing in 14-3 and 5-3 wins over Thiel College. Blough went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and an RBI in the 14-3 victory. In the 5-3 win, he went 3-for-4 with a run score.

Irvin (Portage), was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBIs in the 14-3 win.

Irvin is a senior while Blough is in his junior season.
