Mid-game struggles send Red Flash women to NEC hoops defeat

HACKENSACK, N.J. — The Saint Francis women’s basketball team scored just 12 points combined in the second and third quarters on Thursday, falling 61-39 to Fairleigh Dickinson in a Northeast Conference matchup.
The Red Flash end the regular season 3-26 overall and 3-15 in the NEC, and will play in the first round of the league tournament Monday against FDU back in Hackensack. FDU is 27-4 overall and finished 18-0 in the NEC.
The Red Flash, who only trailed 19-13 after one quarter, got 13 points from Aleah James off the bench to go with 10 points and nine rebounds from Shelby Rick. Bati Assefa added nine rebounds for SFU, which fell behind 32-19 at the break.
It was a one-point game early in the first half before FDU went on a 17-1 run to take control of the game.
FDU, up 43-25 after three quarters, got 17 points from Kailee McDonald to go with nine points from Madlena Gerke.
