Local YMCA swimmers preparing for Silver meet

The Blair Regional YMCA swimmers will compete this weekend in the PA West Silver District Championships which will be held at Hollidaysburg Area Senior High School.

The event is set for Saturday.

YMCAs across western parts of the state will compete in a meet hosted by the Blair Regional YMCA. Swimmers who qualify will be able to advance to the PA YMCA West District Championship meet in March.

Members of the team include Brooks Klaiber, Elizabeth Kalista, Nora Kost, Brody Alberter, Cada Klaiber, Michael Long, Blaise Becker, Piper Myers, Amelia Sirko, Helen Bandstra, Chloe Weaver, Harrison Hargreaves, Carson Diehl, Thomas Kopriva, Mitrofan Neverov, Atticus Gliatis, Quinn Hargreaves, Afanasiy Neverov, Ella Heverly, Eli Smith, Primm Petucci, Evelyn Holton, Caraline Kim, Emily Donlan, Kathryn Bottenfield, Lydia Singer, Claire Rhoa, Davina Holton, Taylor Clouse, Audrey Bandstra, Daniel Frye, Miles Montero-Schezzini, Abigail Bevan, and Hannah Donlan.

Franco, Andrews shine

LORETTO — Vincent Franco and Dylan Andrews competed for the Saint Francis University men’s track and field team these past two weekends during the winter indoor season.

At the Youngstown State meet, Franco finished third out of nine in the weight throw with a mark of 16.97 meters, which was a personal best for the Hollidaysburg grad as well as placing him eighth all-time on the Red Flash list.

At the VMI Winter Relays, Andrews competed in the pole vault where he finished third out of 10 participants with a mark of 4.55, which is seventh all-time on the Saint Francis list. Andrews is a Bellwood-Antis graduate.

Franco competed in the weight throw and finished fourth out of 25 with a throw of 16.70 meters.
