Saint Francis men’s hoops picks up impressive road victory

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Saint Francis' Gestin Liberis sealed the win with a slam dunk with 20 seconds left to finish with a career-high 19 points in a 73-67 win over New Haven in Northeast Conference men's basketball action on Tuesday.

Skylar Wicks, who gave the Red Flash the lead it would not relinquish with an 11-2 run in the first half, finished with 13 points.

Zion Russell registered 14 points, and Chris Moncrief added 13 points as the Red Flash improved to 7-22 overall and 5-11 in the NEC. New Haven dropped to 13-16 overall and 8-8 in the league.

The big turning point came when with the game tied at 30, SFU went on a an 11-2 run, thanks to three field goals and a 5-for-5 showing from the 3-point line for a 41-32 lead at the half.

Earlier, the Flash trailed 21-11 with 11:47 left in the first half, then went on a 17-2 run to take a 28-23 advantage at the five-minute mark. Paris Papadatos powered the spurt with six points.

The Frankies were 17-for-17 from the free throw line, the first time the program was ever perfect from the line in a gme. It was the most foul shots the team made in a game without a miss since 2012.
