MOON TOWNSHIP — The Altoona Area High School gymnstics team competed at the Pa. Classic on Friday night, finishing in second place.

The Lady Lions competed in the Gold Division and totaled a score of 140.975.

Thomas Jefferson High School won the event with a score of 144.950. Central Valley finished in third place with a score of 139.45.

There were seven teams in the competition.

Local hoop tourneys set

PATTON — Cambria Heights High School is the site of the second annual PA state qualifier basketball tournament, which began Friday and will run through Sunday.

The tournament consists of 36 fourth-sixth grade teams, and 66 games will be held in the three days. The top two teams qualify for PA states.

Also, the Building II Athletic Club will be holding round-robin games for its seventh-eighth grade basketball tournament on Saturday.

Two teams from Altoona and one each from Hollidaysburg and Bishop Guilfoyle will be participating. A double-elimination tournament will then be held on Saturday, Feb. 28.
