Penn State women’s basketball team downed by Richmond

GLEN ALLEN, Va. — The Penn State women’s basketball went 1-1 in the 4 Tha Culture Holiday Classic this past weekend, beating VCU, 78-66, on Saturday and falling to Richmond, 70-54, on Sunday.
The Lady Lions fell to 7-5.
In Saturday’s win, PSU redshirt junior Moriah Murray recorded 18 points, all coming from shots from beyond the arc, sophomore Kiymoi McMiller produced her 11th-straight double-digit scoring outing with 17 points to go with eight rebounds, freshman Tea Cleante compiled 15 points in addition to a team high eight assists and five steals, and redshirt junior Gracie Merkle put together her fourth double-double of the season with 13 points and 12 boards.
In Sunday’s loss, Merkle put up 15 points on seven-of-10 shooting from the field, and Cleante recorded 11 points. Senior Maggie Mendelson had eight points and six rebounds.

PSU Altoona loses
WAYNESBURG — The Penn State Altoona women’s basketball team fell to Waynesburg on Saturday afternoon, 74-61.
Penn State Altoona (6-4) trailed by four points, 34-30, at halftime, but Waynesburg (4-6) outscored the Lions 40-31 in the second half.
Avana Sayles scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for PSU Altoona, and Jaidyn McCracken (Bellwood-Antis High School graduate) had 11 points and 10 rebounds, and Lanie Wilt (Altoona Area High School graduate) contributed 11 points.
Juniata gets 1st win
NEW WILMINGTON — The Juniata College women’s basketball team earned its first victory of the season by downing Westminster, 56-50, Saturday afternoon at Ron Galbreath Court inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium.
Juniata (1-8) had four players finish in double figures. Emily McCann had 11 points and five rebounds. Emma Coolidge and Bri Bodtorf each posted double-doubles — Coolidge with 10 points and 17 rebounds and Bodtorf with 10 points and 12 boards. Olivia Berg added 10 points, five rebounds and four assists.
