50 years ago — Nov. 18, 1975: Angie Gioiosa, 37, a teacher and 10-year cross country coach in the Altoona Area School District, won the 50-mile, 13th annual John F. Kennedy Memorial Run held outside Hagerstown, Md.
25 years ago — Nov. 18, 2000: In high school football, Tyrone Area avenged the season’s only loss (19-0 to Bellwood-Antis Sept. 1) and defended its District 6 crown with a 28-3 win over Bellwood before a crowd of 7,000-plus at Mansion Park. Jesse Jones ran in two touchdowns and passed for another.
