50 years ago: Nov. 11, 1975 — The Altoona Recreation Commission announced it was sponsoring a women’s volleyball league for women over 18 Nine teams were to be formed. Tick Hedrick and the Penn State Altoona women’s team were conducting training and demonstrations at the Fifth Ward Community Center.

25 years ago: Nov. 11, 2000 — For the first time in school history, the Bishop Guilfoyle girls volleyball team (23-2) made it to PIAA playoffs, however, losing to Farrell in two straight sets, 17-15 and 15-12. Brittany Gates led BG with 15 kills and 3 blocks.

10 years ago: Nov. 11, 2015 — Both Blair County high school girls soccer teams had unfortunate endings, as Bishop Guilfoyle lost to Loyalstock, 4-3 in overtime, and Central lost to Susquehanna, 2-1, also in overtime.
