LORETTO -- The Saint Francis men's basketball team made its home debut Tuesday night, falling to Mount St. Mary's, 74-66, inside DeGol Arena.
Zion Russell registered a career-high 23 points, while Skylar Wicks added his first double-double in a Saint Francis uniform with 15 points and 13 rebounds.
With Saint Francis (0-3) holding a 16-10 lead, a name known in Loretto sparked the Mountaineers into a lead they would not relinquish.
Patrick Haigh, whose father, Joe, was the Red Flash women's basketball coach at one time, had three 3-pointers to fuel a 20-7 run. Saint Francis trimmed the margin to four points twice in the second half, but could get no closer. Haigh finished with 15 points to lead his team in the win.
"We are taking steps every time we play and are getting better. As a competitor, it's tough, but as a coach, you have to understand the progress. We will keep pushing and coaching these guys to get better," SFU coach Luke McConnell said.
The Red Flash play again on Tuesday, Nov. 18, at Lehigh at 7 p.m.
