50 years ago: Oct. 24, 1975 — In junior high school football, Bishop Guilfoyle (6-1-1) beat Hollidaysburg (5-2-1) 6-0 with Kevin Mitchell scoring the Marauders only touchdown.
25 years ago: Oct. 24, 2000 — John Swogger of Bellwood, former basketball coach at Altoona High School and now retired, was being inducted into the Mercer High School Athletic Hall of Fame. He was already in the Mercer County and Lawrence County Halls of Fame.
10 years ago: Oct. 24, 2015 — In high school football, Altoona Area edged Hempfield, 35-33, at Mansion Park as former Altoona, Penn State and New York Giants standout lineman Brad Benson attended and presented trophies. Also Altoona’s first state wrestling champion, Benson was greeted by his former wrestling coach, Marty Rusnak.
