BELLEFONTE -- The Tyrone boys soccer team will get another chance against Hollidaysburg next week.
The two teams will play on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Philipsburg-Osceola High School for the District 6 3A championship, thanks to the Golden Eagles 3-2 double overtime win late Thursday night against No. 2 seed Bellefonte.
Tyrone, which is 13-6 this season, played the Golden Tigers earlier this season and lost 3-2. Hollidaysburg beat Central Mountain on Thursday night in the other semi-final round game, 2-1, in overtime.
"All the credit goes to the boys, they played their tails off," Tyrone coach Alex Bartlett said. "Looking forward to Hollidaysburg."
Tyrone trailed Bellefonte 2-0 Thursday night before mounting its comeback. Goals by Collenn Sabinger and Austin Larson put the Golden Eagles in a hole. Tyrone made it 2-1 when Miles Smearman scored at the 28:03 mark of the second half off a Tytus Novak assist. Novak then saved the day when his goal tied it at 2-2 with 3:03 remaining in regulation off a Noah Gulvas pass. The game-winner came at the 12:50 mark of the second overtime when Grant Miller scored an unassisted goal.
"We knew it was going to be us against the world going into this game. Many doubted us, but believing is a crazy thing," Bartlett said. "And if you can believe it in your heart, have the courage to speak it, it will happen. That's what we did."
The Golden Tigers are 16-2-1. Bellefonte finished its season at 15-5.
