PHILIPSBURG -- After Tuesday night's District 6 Class 3A championship against Bellefonte, Hollidaysburg's Sage Capone and Lily Chestney took a photo together. Capone wears No. 6, while Chestney is No. 7, recreating the popular '6-7' phenomenon that has taken over teenagers in recent months.
You could say the postgame photo was pre-planned as a celebration.
"She's my best friend on the team," Capone said. "We decided to do 6 and 7 this year. It's her senior year. It's fun."
The celebration was for Capone's goal in the 60th minute, which turned out to be all the Lady Tigers needed to beat Bellefonte, 1-0, at Philipsburg-Osceola High School to repeat as the district champion.
"It's been a long year, a lot of ups and downs," Hollidaysburg coach Tristan delGuidice said. "The girls played their hearts tonight. We didn't give up any goals to a really tough Bellefonte team.
"We were playing with a freshman keeper (Ellie Jadlocki) this year. She was great. Defense played really well. Bellefonte had a couple chances."
Capone's goal at 59:56 came off a corner kick from Bailey Stoehr to break a scoreless tie, despite multiple opportunities on both sides to crack the scoreboard.
It's been a common theme for Hollidaysburg, which had trouble finding offense at times throughout the season.
"That's been our season," delGuidice said. "We haven't scored nearly as many goals as we have in the past. Fortunately we were really solid defensively all season. We've kind of gotten used to it. We've been in a lot of tight games.
"We got lucky today. Sage was in the right place at the right time."
"(The win) is just really relieving," Capone said. "This just summed up the whole season honestly."
Jadlocki made seven saves in goal for the shutout, which was the second 1-0 shutout that Hollidaysburg pitched on Bellefonte this season. The two teams met in Hollidaysburg on Sept. 10.
The Lady Tigers advanced to the PIAA Tournament where they will face the District 7 runner-up on Tuesday between Fox Chapel and South Fayette. Regardless of who they play, the game will be held at Hollidaysburg's Tiger Stadium.
"Last year we played Fox Chapel, and that was probably the best team I've ever coached against," delGuidice said. "Those teams in the WPIAL are top-notch. We'll try to get the girls ready, give it our best, and see how it goes."
