EBENSBURG -- Bishop Carroll Catholic and Central Cambria announced new athletic cooperative agreements between the two neighboring schools.
After a vote of the Central Cambria School Board on Oct. 20, and an approval vote of the Bishop Carroll Catholic High School Board of Trustees on Oct. 30, Central Cambria and Bishop Carroll Catholic have entered into cooperative agreements in the following sports -- football in grades seventh through 12th in 2026 and 2027 and swimming (grades nine through 12th) and boys and girls wrestling (grades seven through 12th) for this winter and the 2026-2027 school year.
All three moves must still be approved by the PIAA at its next board meeting.
"I am grateful for the opportunities that these agreements open up for our student-athletes," Bishop Carroll principal Jonathan Nagy said. "We already provide a well-rounded spiritual, educational, athletic, and extracurricular education to our students, but these cooperative agreements will allow our students even more possibilities."
Under the agreements, student-athletes from Bishop Carroll will have the opportunity to participate on Central Cambria teams in these sports, with both schools working closely with District 6 to ensure a smooth and equitable implementation process.
The students from Bishop Carroll currently playing football are in a co-op with Bishop McCort centered out of Johnstown.
The proximity of the Carroll to Central Cambria makes this collaboration both practical and meaningful for students and families at both schools according to a press release sent out by Carroll.
"I am excited for the opportunities that these cooperative sponsorships will provide for both Bishop Carroll Catholic and Central Cambria student-athletes," Bishop Carroll athletic director Brooke Weiland said. "I look forward to the positive relationships, increased community involvement, and growth of our programs ahead."
The winter co-ops will begin this season if approved.
"Partnerships like this strengthen our programs and allow us to continue providing competitive, high-quality athletic experiences for all involved," Central Cambria athletic director Randy Wilson said.
The board has also approved a boys and girls soccer cooperative agreement with Northern Cambria, in which student-athletes from Northern Cambria will have the opportunity to play on the Bishop Carroll teams. That agreement will begin with the 2026-2027 season.
Northern Cambria approved that agreement earlier this month.
