50 years ago: Sept. 6, 1975 — Coming off an ankle injury, Jim Sommer kicked a 33-yard field goal that gave Bishop Guilfoyle a 3-0 win over Huntingdon in high school football play. BG had 168 yards rushing while Huntingdon was held to 57.
25 years ago: Sept. 6, 2000 — In junior high school football action, Tyrone edged Bellwood-Antis, 14-12, with Adam Kobuck scoring on a run and Aaron Jeffries on a pass reception. Elsewhere, Spring Cove beat Tussey Mountain, 21-6, with Mark Detwiler scoring two touchdowns on a total of 112 yards rushing.
10 years ago: Sept. 6, 2015 — In high school football action, Bishop Guilfoyle downed Richland, 38-14, at home with Evan Chadbourn rushing for 226 yards, two receptions for 56 yards and four touchdowns. Josh Trybus returned an interception 51 yards for a TD and passed for another.

50 years ago: Sept. 7, 1975 — In high school football action, Altoona Area downed Williamsport, 13-4, in an away game with Mike Miller scoring two touchdowns for the Mountain Lions, one on a 51-yard run.
25 years ago: Sept. 7, 2000 — Both the Tyrone boys and girls teams beat both Bald Eagle Area and Philipsburg-Osceola but lost to Indiana in a cross country meet at Philipsburg, with Tyrone’s James Wiggin setting a new course record.
10 years ago: Sept. 7, 2015 — Penn State lost its season opener to Temple, 27-10, with Nittany Lions quarterback Christian Hackenberg getting sacked 10 times by the Owls defense.
