50 years ago: Sept. 3, 1975 -- In opening play of the Altoona Parochial School Football League, McNelis Catholic beat St. Rose of Lima, 14-6, when Danny Cowan intercepted a pass and raced 80 yards for a McNelis touchdown at Vets Field. Earlier in the game, Gibby Servello had intercepted a pass and ran 41 yards for a St. Rose score.
25 years ago: Sept. 3, 2000 -- Bishop Guilfoyle blanked James Buchanan, 28-0, in high school football action at Mercersburg. Ryan Geishauser scored three of the team's four touchdowns. In other games, Bellwood-Antis beat defending state champ Tyrone, 19-0, at Tyrone, with Dave Miller rushing for 85 yards and a score.
10 years ago: Sept. 3, 2015 -- Altoona Area High won a rain shortened golf match over both Central and Northern Bedford at Iron Masters Country Club, with Mountain Lion Austin DelBaggio winning medalist honors with a 37 and teammate J.P. Duffy carding a 38.
